JAMMU, July 2: A young married woman was raped and severely beaten up while two others, who came to her rescue, were also thrashed by a youth, here at village Ghani.
According to the reports, a 35 years old woman of Village Ghani was grazing her cattle in the fields, when one Mohd Sharaft (22), son of Abdul Gani and resident of Ghani, came close to her and started flirting and then attempted rape on her. When the victim cried for help, he severely beat her and also attacked with sharp edged weapons including axe.
Meanwhile, listening the cries of the victim two women identified as Zatoon (25) wife of Abdul Hamid and Pervez Akhtar (30) wife of Abdul Majid, came to her rescue but they were also thrashed severely by the accused and his two brothers Mohd Layaqat and Mohd Shokat.
Later, other villagers also reached the spot and locked all the accused in a closed room.
All three seriously injured women including the rape victim were shifted to Sub District Hospital, Mendhar, by Panch of the area, Mohd Farooq with the help of other locals.
Meanwhile, on the complaint of the locals and kin of the victims, all the three accused including the rapist, were arrested by Mendhar police while the statement of the victims including the rape victim are yet to be recorded by the police.
