JAMMU, Nov 6: A woman committed suicide by pouring kerosene oil and setting herself ablaze in Kathar area of tehsil Akhnoor.
Police spokesman said that, a woman namely Reeta Devi, wife of Surinder Singh of Kathar, tehsil Akhnoor, allegedly poured kerosene oil and set herself ablaze.
On getting information, police rushed to the spot and shifted her to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) with 90 per cent burns, where she failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to her burn injuries, spokesman added.
In her statement to police before breathing her last, the woman had stated that her in-laws used to harass her on petty issues and were also demanding dowry, he said, adding, that a case under FIR number 250/ 12, under Sections 309/ 306 RPC has been registered at Chowki Choura Police Post and investigation started to ascertain the exact reason behind such extreme step.
No arrest has been made till late night, spokesman added.
