JAMMU/ Srinagar, July 6: A woman slipped into a stream and died amidst rain late last evening in Poonch area, three people were injured in house collapse in district Udhampur while a significant fall in temperature has been recorded in Srinagar and Jammu after rains.
Reports from Poonch said that a woman’s body was recovered from a stream in Keri Kangra area of Gursai in Mendhar Sub Division last evening. She was said to have slipped into the stream amidst rain. They said the area had witnessed heavy rains, and the woman might have slipped into the flooded stream.

In another incident, three people were injured when their muddy-house collapsed due to heavy rains at village Ansu in the Kotliwala area, near Laddan Power House in Udhampur district last night.
The injured were identified as Satpal, his wife Ashu and their 8- years- old son, Danish. The locals of the area shifted the injured to District Hospital, Udhampur.
Meanwhile, during heavy rain a car ( JK20/7596) slipped into Ans river in Dharmari area last evening, in which its driver sustained serious injuries. He was spotted by some one and rescued after long time of mishap to Mahore Hospital and later referred to GMC Jammu.
Another report said that due to rain and landslides at Daggan Top, Mahore-Gool road has been closed.
Heavy rains lashed parts of the Jammu region overnight, with Jammu city recording the highest 69.4 mm of rainfall, followed by 57.4 mm in the Udhampur district.
Due to heavy rain, a portion of outer wall of the Civil Secretariat, Jammu collapsed. However, no loss of life or injury to any one was reported. The rain water and flooded drain water entered many houses in the City, causing damage to the public property.
Katra, the base camp for the pilgrims visiting Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, recorded 50.1 mm and Kathua district 53.6 mm of rainfall, the MeT official said.
The maximum temperature in Jammu was 30.9 degrees Celsius, which was 4.5 degrees below normal during this part of the season, the MeT official said, adding that the minimum temperature was also 4.2 notches below normal at 21.6 degrees Celsius. On Friday, the City recorded a maximum temperature of 34.3 deg C.
Authorities have issued an advisory in the Jammu region, asking people to avoid water bodies given the wet weather forecast by the MeT Department till July 10.
After the hottest July day recorded in Srinagar at 35.7°C in 25-years on Thursday, the city saw a drop of maximum temperature below normal for this time of the year as scattered showers at many places in Kashmir continued for the second consecutive day today.
The showers in parts of Kashmir for the last two days brought relief from intense heat wave conditions. There were gusty winds and heavy showers reported from several parts of the Valley that led to drop in temperatures by a few notches.
The MeT official forecast a spell of moderate to intense rain and thundershowers over Kupwara, Tanghdar, Handwara, Baramulla and parts of Bandipora and Ganderbal districts for this evening.
“Few places may receive intense showers with hail storms and gusty winds for a brief period,” he said.
Srinagar recorded a maximum of 29.7°C, one degree Celsius below normal for this time of the year. Srinagar recorded 35.7°C on Thursday which was the highest since 9th July 1999 for the city when mercury scorched to 37°C.
Qazigund settled at a maximum of 29.0°C, Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 24.1°C and Kupwara registered 30.4°C.
On July 7, the MeT official said, intermittent spell of light to moderate rain/thundershower was expected at many places with isolated heavy rain over Jammu Division.
“On July 8-10, hot and humid weather is expected with possibility of spell of rain/thundershower at scattered places of Jammu Division towards late night, early morning. Spell of rain/thundershower are expected at a few places of Kashmir Division,” he added.
