Woman’s blind murder solved, accused arrested

KATHUA, Oct 28: With the arrest of the accused, Kathua police claimed to have solved the blind murder and burglary case which took place in Ward No. 10 of Kathua town on the intervening night of October 23 and 24.
The police found that a middle aged woman, Guddi, wife of Charan Singh of Morali village in Kathua, who was in desperate need of money and gold for her daughter’s marriage executed the plan and eliminated the old lady in relation. Her daughter’s marriage took place yesterday and today, she was put behind the bars.
Giving details a senior police official said elderly woman, Soma Devi, wife of Late Dhruv Singh, resident of Ward No. 10 Kathua town was found murdered in her house on the morning of October 24, 2012. The cause of murder was suspected to be injury inflicted with a blunt object on her head. The jewellery worn by the deceased including two gold bangles (Karhe) and two ear rings were also found missing. It was established that the accused made attempt to break lock of one of the rooms with the motive of further burglary but could not succeed.
The police on receiving information rushed there and examined the spot. It registered a case FIR No. 431/12 under Sections 302/392/460 RPC. During investigation, it was established that one Guddi, hailing from Maroli village along with her son had stayed at the house of one of her relatives which is situated very close to the house of deceased. The house of deceased is accessible from this house via a terrace. It was also revealed by these relatives that Guddi left their house along with her son early morning under mysterious circumstances after she was spotted coming down from the terrace.
Acting on this tip off, the police picked up Guddi today morning and placed under sustained interrogation. She broke down and confessed her guilt. She also revealed that she used a brick to attack head of the deceased. The accused also revealed that she needed money and gold for her daughter’s marriage desperately and she planned to eliminate the lady and steal her gold. She told that after trying hard to break the lock, she returned with gold ear rings and two wrist bangles as she feared that making sound would awake other people. After coming back, early morning she woke up her son and then left home early morning at around 4.30 am. The police also recovered the stolen jewellery from the shop of one gold smith from Govindsar in Kathua. He revealed that lady wanted new ornaments against this jewellery. The deceased’s only daughter also identified her mother’s jewellery.
The accused lady was finally arrested and a murder case registered against her. She has been sent to police lock up. The police team headed by DySP Hqs, Daljit Singh solved this blind murder within four days.
