JAMMU, Aug 27: Quick on the heels of yesterday’s protest by the BJP activists against selection of candidates for the next months Assembly elections in the UT of J&K, women activists of the party also held a massive protest in front of the party office here today alleging discrimination with women folk in ticket distribution.
A large number of women drawn from various far-flung areas of Jammu region including Dudo Basantgarh , Doda and Ram Nagar Assembled in front of BJP office here today and shouted slogans against the discrimination meted out to women activists of the party in ticket distribution.
The agitated women said that on the one hand the party leadership is claiming that it is championing the cause of women and on the other hand it has totally discriminated with women activists of the party in ticket distribution. They said out of the 42 candidates whose list was issued yesterday and today respectively only one woman figure in it and she too was from a terrorist victim family whose father and uncle gave sacrifice for the nation.
A protesting woman activist said that the father of Shugan and her uncle who is the party candidate from Kishtwar served the party entire life and they laid down their lives for the national cause. “But our demand is that the women should be given their due right and in the next list some female candidates be fielded from some constituencies which is our right,” she added.
She said “It is not the question that we are angry and annoyed over the decision of the party but we are demanding our rights and are against the discrimination with women.”
