Women among 5 civilians injured in Pak firing on LoC, shops gutted

JAMMU: At least five civilians, including three women, got injured as Pakistan resorted to heavy unprovoked firing, while over a dozen shops got gutted after fire broke out due to shelling on the Line of Control in Poonch district.

”Five civilians, including three women, sustained injuries in firing from across the border,” Inspector General of Police Johny Williams (In-charge Rajouri-Poonch Range), here told reporters. He said the Pakistani Army this morning at around 1055 hrs, fired small arms and violated the truce, but later fired mortars in Shahpur Kerni Sector of Poonch.

The IG said the firing simultaneously shifted towards Gali Maidan area of Saujiyan. Two persons got injured in Saujiyan while two females sustained wounds in Shahpur Kerni, he said and added, ”the injured have been hospitalised.” Pakistan fired small arms and later resorted to mortar shelling, he added.

Meanwhile, Defence sources said, ”own troops retaliated with similar calibre weapons and the firing had stopped as of now.” They said a devastating fire also broke out in Gali Maidan area of Saujiyan this evening when a mortar hit the building where the Kerosene was dumped by the security forces for to be used in the forward belts.

”A mortar shell the shop where the petro product was dumped following which a fire broke out and over a dozen shops gutted in the inferno,” sources added. (AGENCIES)
