Women, children among 56 taken into custody for violating weekend lockdown

UDHAMPUR, Aug 9: Women and children among 55 persons were taken into custody for travelling in a truck and thus defying prohibitory orders of District Magistrate over weekend lockdown in view of Covid-19.
Driver of the truck has also been arrested and a case FIR under relevant sections was registered against him at Police Station Chenani while the travelers are being tested for COVID-19.
Reports said that Javeed Ahmed, son of Jalal- ud- Din of Lalpora, Tral District Pulwama was driving truck, bearing registration number JK03H-4315, which was intercepted by a Police team, led by SHO Chenani Pushpinder Singh during a naka at Motorshed Chenani.
The truck was carrying 55 passengers, including 29 males, 12 females and 14 children, who had concealed themselves in the vehicle. All the 55 persons along with driver of the vehicle were taken into custody for violating Standard Operation procedure (SOPs) guideline issued by Govt, including social distancing norms and non wearing masks etc.
The travelers are also being tested for COVID and further course of action shall follow, said the Police.
In this connection, a case FIR number 92/2020, under section 188/269 IPC has been registered at PS Chenani.
