JAMMU, Dec 25: A general convention of the women of Kumhar Biradari was organized today at Sant Shri Gora Ji Maharaj Temple, near General Bus Stand Jammu.
A large number of women, students and children of the community across the State, attended the convention, which was addressed by elderly women and young girls who expressed their views on the role of women in society and also threw light on problems being faced by them at the hands of male dominating society.
On the occasion a memorandum was submitted to Assistant Director Social Welfare Department Jammu, who attended the function as a representative of the Minister for Social Welfare, J&K.
The memorandum included various demands such as granting of pre-metric and post- metric scholarships to the students of OBC community on the pattern of SC/ST students, issuance of OBC certificate instead of OSC, provision of loans to the women on subsidized rates, inclusion of the community women in Women Development Corporation and in SC/ST/OBC Corporation.
The convention was held under the chairmanship of Parvesh Kumari and addressed by the Prajapati (Kumhar) Sabha State president Ayodhya Kumar Manawa, Des Raj Tyagi, Jeet Singh Sangotra, Master Darshan Lal, Madan Lal Baldotra, Punnu Ram, Faqir Chand Satia, Amar Chand, Manju Bala, Darshana Kumari, Ajay Kumar and G R Dafarra.
