BISHNAH, Sept 5: Former MLA  and senior National Conference leader  Bimla Luthra today said that empowerment and economic emancipation of women is imperative for harmonious growth of the society.
Speaking at a function at Khairi in Bishnah constituency of Jammu district today, Luthra  urged upon the women to come forward and get benefit from various schemes tailored for their welfare and empowerment. This, she said, will go a long way in achieving the goal of empowering women economically, so that they can supplement income of their families.
Luthra said that National Conference has taken several strides for promoting female literacy and ensuring their economic empowerment even when education of girl child was a taboo in many states of the countries. In this context, she referred to tireless efforts made by  Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and Madr-e-Meharban Begum Abdullah, who devoted herself to cause of girl child. As a result of their concerted efforts, a huge transformation has taken place in the status of women in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Now that the women are progressing and making their mark in every-field, National Conference will facilitate their empowerment in every possible way”, Luthra maintained and hoped that women will make their presence felt in different fields and contribute in societal development in a big way.
The NC leader also appreciated the gesture of an NGO in making an educational centre in the area for women emancipation and promotion of informal education.
Luthra exuded confidence that the women of the area will benefit from this educational centre in a big way.
