Women equal partners in development of nation Tewari

LUDHIANA, Mar 9: Information & Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari today said the Union Government has taken concrete steps to ensure safety and dignity of women, but with the active support of society, the efforts of the government can yield better results.
He said this while addressing the annual convocation of Ramgarhia Girls’ College, Ludhiana in Punjab. He further added that for creating a free and safe environment for women, there was need to bring about a change in the mindset of the people towards women.
The Minister emphasised that society has to accept women as equal partners in the development of the nation and society. On their part, the women will also have to play a bigger role in eliminating social evils, he added.
Mr Tewari informed that the Centre has initiated the skill development programme and urged the women to come forward to join the programme in large numbers. He urged the college authorities for updating the curriculum according to the need of the hour and asked them to foster a close liaison with industry.
Congratulating the proud recipients of degrees, Mr Tewari said a bright future lies ahead for them and there was no reason why they should not enter the world with there wings spread out into the endless sky.
On the occasion, the minister awarded Role of Honour to 21 students from various fields. He also conferred the Masters and Bachelors degrees upon 783 students. The Minister also inaugurated the Computer Lab of the college for which a grant of Rs five lakh has been provided by Mr Tewari from his MPLADS (Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) fund. He further assured the college of all financial help for the development of the institution.
Addressing the students, President of Ramgarhia Education Council, Ranjodh Singh said numerous opportunities await the students who had attained the degree with strenuous efforts. Principal Dr Narinder Kaur Sandhu also spoke.
Mr Tewari was also honoured by the Ramgarhia Educational Trust.
Earlier in the morning, Mr Manish Tewari inaugurated the rural sports meet at Malakpur Villag Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the UPA Government was committed to strengthening of rural sports infrastructure in the country so that the energy of the youth could be utilised in a positive way.
