Srinagar, Oct 29: Police in Ganderbal today said to have busted a women’s gang of pickpockets who had been operating in the Kangan area of the district.
Kangan police station had received information from various sources that a gang of pickpockets was operating within their jurisdiction, especially in the vicinity of the Sub District Hospital in Kangan.
On the orders of SSP Ganderbal, a special police team was formed, led by SHO PS Kangan, under the supervision of SDPO Kangan.
“Taking swift action, the police team, with the assistance of reliable sources, set a trap at Kangan Market and apprehended three accused women red-handed while attempting to pick the pocket of an innocent person.
As per police, the trio attempted to escape from the scene with the stolen cash amounting to Rs 25,000, but were nabbed skillfully. “The stolen money was recovered and seized,” the police added.
In connection with this incident, the police stated that a case with FIR No. 118/2023, under the relevant sections of the law, has been registered at PS Kangan, and further investigation is underway.
