Women Police Stations facing shortage of staff

JAMMU, Mar 21: The casual approach of  the State Government in running Women Police Stations in the State has been exposed as most of these Police Stations are facing acute shortage of staff.
The data compiled from the State Police Department discloses that there is just  about one third (1/3)  staff available in these three  Women Police Stations against the actual sanctioned strength. These Women Police Stations include Women P/S Gandhinagar in Jammu, Rajouri and Udhampur.
The information collected through an RTI activist  further revealed that there are    at least 57 vacancies out of total 152 sanctioned strength in these three Police Stations.
The huge shortage of  staff  has been established  at WPS, Udhampur, where against sanctioned strength of total 52,  only 29 officials are presently posted.  No Sub Inspector, Assistant Sub Inspector is placed there whereas, there are two  vacancies of  ASIs and one vacancy of SI. However, there are eight Head Constables deputed whereas, sanctioned strength is six.
In case of Selection Grade Constables and Constables,  there is almost 50 percent deficiency. The sanctioned strength is 32 whereas, only 11 Constables and six SGCTs are posted here.
Women Police Station Gandhinagar of  district Jammu also running short of staff. Against sanctioned strength of total 48 Cops, the actual strength is 32 having a deficiency of 16. Out of 30 posts of Selection Grade Constables and Constables, there are only 14 cops posted there. There is also shortage of  one SI and four  Head Constables.
Women Police Station, Rajouri also suffering from deficiency of  adequate staff as at  present strength of staff is 34 whereas the actual sanctioned strength is 52.
There is deficiency of three Head Constables and 15 Constables. Two posts of operators are also lying vacant in this Police Station.
It is pertinent to mention here that  out of total 215 Police Stations across the State, only seven are headed by lady officers.
