JAMMU, Mar 30: Extremely agitated over the immunity granted to BJP workers who assaulted her and NPP Chairman Harsh Dev Singh (her spouse), on March 17 at Kuh Nalah while they were on their way to their ancestral village, Manju Singh- party general secretary along with women activists of the party held a protest dharna outside Governor House in Jammu today.
The angry women protesters while seeking immediate arrest of all the persons involved in attack , raised slogans ‘Mehbooba Tere Raaj Mein, Mahilayon Per Hamley Hote Hain’, ‘BJP Ke Goondon ko Giraftaar Karo, Giraftaar Karo’, ‘SSP Udhampur Murdabad’.
Explaining details of the ‘murderous’ attack on them, Manju Singh alleged that the BJP workers had laid the ambush at Kuh Nalah which fell on the way to Chanunta and Upper Khail where they were to address public meetings. She said that the gang of around 16-17 people armed with lathis and weapons had blocked the road who stopped their vehicle and pounced upon them hurling filthy abuses and attacked them in full public view.
She said that her husband was physically assaulted and threatened by the criminals who severely injured him and tore his shirt with a motive to silence his voice forever. “Even I was not spared. The BJP ruffians pushed me on the ground and dragged me ruthlessly causing injuries to my limbs”, lamented Mrs Singh.
She further divulged that the attack was contemplated a day earlier with Police having full knowledge of the same acting as an accomplice to please their political masters. She revealed that Harsh Dev Singh had informed the SSP Udhampur beforehand about the dubious plan of the fringe elements who had assured him that nothing of that sort would happen and the concerned SHO had been instructed to take note of the matter.
” But on our arrival at Kuh Nalah which was just 18 kms short of Ramnagar, we were surprised to see that no one from Police was deployed. The offenders brazenly attacked us before the arrival of police. The worst part was that despite we were bashed up by the BJP goons, the Police registered FIR against me and my husband under the influence of the BJP leaders,” Manju alleged.
Prominent among those who accompanied included Pinki Raina, Jogila Sharma, Krishana Devi, Jyoti Devi, Anjali Devi, Neena Singh, Priya Devi, Neelam Devi, Swrana Devi, Rajni Devi, Reena Singh and others.
