JAMMU, Aug 23: BJP leader and Councillor of JMC Ward 41 Sanjay Kumar Baru today said that he won’t allow anyone to ruin the heritage site of Poonch House.
This assurance was given by the Councillor to members of Mohalla Welfare Committee, Anand Vihar (Bohri), who take up the issue of construction of Grid Station in Poonch House ground in a meeting chaired by Sanjay Kumar Baru. BJP leader Krishan Lal Sharma and prominent civil society members from the area participated in the meeting.
The Committee members said that the heritage sites are the property as well as the responsibility of the Government, Administration and the local residents in any area. They stressed that the Poonch House ground is a heritage site and hence it should not be ruined. The members said that they are not opposing the development work but it should not be done at the cost of culture and heritage.
Representatives of the Committee also raised several issues of the development in front of the senior BJP leader. They raised demand for the blacktopping of lane number 3, Anand Vihar. They demanded that more street-lights be affixed on the electricity poles as there is insufficient light in the majority of the lanes and some lanes have completely blacked out for the want of repair or absence of street lights.
Baru listened to the demands put forth by the residents patiently. He assured them that the blacktopping issue raised by them will be addressed immediately after the rainy season is over. He also assured them that soon the maximum streets will be enlightened with the new street lights.
On issue of construction of Grid Station, Baru apprised them that he has already met the District Commissioner in this regard and has proposed that a State/JDA Land is available in Durga Nagar in the same Ward, where the Grid Station can be constructed.
