Work on JU Campus at Poonch to start shortly: Lone

JAMMU, Apr 5: Minister for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar Lone while intervening in a discussion raised by Dr Shahnaz Ganai assured that remaining work on the construction of Campus of Jammu University at Poonch will be started this year adding that he will personally visit the campus site to take on spot appraisal of activities to be carried out to establish the required infrastructure.
Earlier, replying to the discussion regarding delay in start of construction work on the Campus, Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Ajaz Ahmad Khan informed the house that the Poonch Campus of the University of Jammu was established in the year 2008 vide 67th University Council Resolution held on 25.02.2008.
He said that the Campus is presently functioning in the Government Degree College, Poonch. The UGC has approved Rs 1469.72 lakh for infrastructure development of Poonch Campus out of which 50 per cent of the sanctioned grant has been released during the financial year 2011-12.
The construction work of Poonch Campus has been allotted to PWD (R&B) on 27.01.2012. The tender documents for construction of Academic cum Administrative block, Boys Hostel and Girls Hostel have been submitted to the Superintendent Engineer, PWD Jammu and Kathua circle R&B for approval. The construction work is likely to be started shortly, the Minister maintained.
