Workshop-cum-awareness campaign on Gender Health and Hygiene held

JAMMU, July 5: Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruc-tion Agency (J&KERA) organized a workshop-cum-public awareness campaign titled “Gender and Improved Health and Hygiene”, at Shankar Colony, Gangyal here today.
The event was organized to promote the benefits of improved drainage infrastructure which is part of Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded Jammu and Kashmir Urban Sector Development Investment Program (JKUSDIP).
The objective was to spread awareness among the households about links between the maintenance of storm water drains and personal/community level hygiene and health.
Shakti Sagar, Project Manager, J&K ERA while welcoming the participants briefed about the process, need and benefits of the storm water drainage subproject taken up by ERA.
Meera Mathur, a representative of Management Consultants while interacting especially with the women members of the community focused on best sanitation practices and the ill effects of solid waste dumping in the drains.
The community representatives especially women voiced for placing of community dustbin in their locality which shall reduce the incidences of dumping of household waste in the drains.
