Workshop for mobile school teachers begins

JAMMU, Oct 26: The second phase of the workshop on “Popularization of Science activities under ST Plan (Project), Govt. of India” for the teachers of mobile schools of J&K began today at Government Women College, Parade, Jammu.
The inaugural function was presided over by Prof Renu Goswami, Principal GCW Parade Jammu whereas H R Pakhroo, Joint Director Training/Principal State Institute of Education and Zafferullah Khan, Founder Secretary NCURDS, were the guests of honour.
The workshop is the joint venture of Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science & Technology, Government  of India, Noida and National Council for Urban and Rural Development Society (NCURDS), Jammu. The main purpose of the programme is to foster scientific temperament among the teachers with main stress on “Learning by Doing” in discharging effective teaching learning process that ultimately will benefit student communities.
About 50 participants from different districts of Jammu province (Jammu, Kathua, Samba & Ramban) are participating  in this four-day workshop.
Dr Ashaq Hussain, chairman Organizing Committee, said that  the program is an extension of already initiated  programs by the organization and here in this program leftover teachers of mobile schools across Jammu Division will be oriented.
Kuldeep Gupta, Programme Coordinator, briefed about the activities of NCURDS.
The Resource persons,  who will be interacting  with the participants during this four day program,  include Jawaid Alam  from Patna (Bihar),  Zia Ahmed Khan, District Science Officer, Aligarh, DST, (UP), Dr  Ashaq Hussain of Govt Degree College Kishtwar,    Kuldeep Gupta Master Resource person Jammu.
In the technical session on first day of the workshop,  Jawaid Alam and Zia Ahmed Khan performed several experiments related to nature study. Dr  Sunil Wanchoo of SMVDU Katra discussed about Enquiry based learning with the help of a  Power Point Presentation. Dr  Smantha  Vaishnavi of Deptt of Biotechnology SMVDU Katra, threw light  on the basic unit of life.
