JAMMU, Mar 31: The Department of Surgery, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu organized a one-day workshop on Suturing/Anastomosis techniques and Staplers for Senior Residents and 3rd year Postgraduates in the Skill Lab, in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson.
The Workshop was inaugurated by Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma who complimented the Department for organizing such a workshop for the Residents for the first time. She urged the HoD Surgery to make such workshops a regular feature in the Department, especially for the first year PGs so that the Residents can learn the basic skills to benefit the patients ultimately.
Dr Ratnakar Sharma (HoD surgery) said that the Department is doing all types of surgeries and the waiting time of elective surgery has been considerably reduced despite shortage of manpower. He further said that the Department intends to send PGs in batches for advance trainings and requested the Principal and Dean for permission.
During the workshop, the Residents were given hands on training on how to do gut and vascular anastomosis on sheep Aorta and intestines. They were also given training on use of different types of Staplers. Dr Ratnakar Sharma was the expert and other faculty members viz. Dr Zahoor, Dr Vikrant Singh, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Dr Rajni Bhardwaj, Dr Manmeet and Dr Rahil also participated in the Workshop.
Dr Kailash Singh (Assistant Professor, Surgery) conducted proceedings of the Workshop.
