JAMMU, May 19: A workshop titled “Changing Techniques of Literary Translation” was held today in the main hall of Kala Kendra, organized by Yuganugoonj Parkashan in collaboration with the Kala Kendra Society. The event attracted notable literary figures and scholars.
The panel included distinguished writers and academicians such as Dr Arvinder Singh, Dr Kapil Anirud, Prof Ankur Rastugi, Dr Javaid Rahi (Secretary of Kala Kendra Society Jammu), and Vijaya Thakur, representing the Jammu chapter of Yuganugoonj Parkashan.
Vijaya Thakur welcomed the guests, emphasizing the seminar’s goal to explore essential tools and techniques for literary translation. She highlighted Yuganugoonj Parkashan’s efforts in organizing events to unite the linguistic intelligentsia.
Dr Javaid Rahi stressed that the workshop aimed to foster cross-cultural understanding and collaboration through translation.
He noted this was the first time writers from various linguistic backgrounds had gathered at Kala Kendra to discuss new techniques in translation and transcription.
Dr Arvinder Singh pointed out that while many software tools can aid translation, human intervention remains crucial for capturing the philosophical, literary, and cultural nuances of the original text’s community.
Participants included Kapil Anirud, Raj Kumar Behropiya, Swami Antar Nirav, Naseem Akhter, Chanchal Bhasin, Dimpal Verma, Monika, and Balvinder Deep.
Following the workshop, a multi-lingual poetry reading celebrated the region’s rich linguistic diversity.
Poets recited their works in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Dogri, Gojri, and other languages, creating a vibrant tapestry of poetic expression.
