LEH, Aug 20: Considering the ecological and environmental sensitivity of Ladakh, a training workshop is being organized by Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology with support of Department of Science, Government of India here from August 18 to September 6.
The main objective of the workshop is to create scientific manpower in order to address and redress issues pertaining to past and present climate variability in the region by exposing young scientists to the Quaternary processes operating in the arid zones of Himalaya and attract them to initiate a research program on the Quaternary set up of Ladakh.
The workshop is being attended by as many as 15 young participants from across the country, who will be taken to various geological archives such as glacial deposits, river and lake deposits in order to understand how these geomorphic processes varied through time and the forcing factors responsible for their variability.
The workshop finally aims at bringing out a detail document on the past and present environmental status of part of Ladakh and Karakoram region.
Eminent scientist Prof. AK Sanghvi of PRL Ahmadabad formally inaugurated the workshop.
The Deputy Commissioner, Leh Tsering Angchok, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh Tsering Morup, Prof AK Gupta, Director of Wadia Institute were among others present on the occasion.
