Workshop on Consumer Protection, Welfare concludes at IIPA

JAMMU, Apr 6: Workshop on Consumer Protection and Consumer Welfare organized by Indian Institute of Public Administration J&K Regional branch and Centre for Consumer Studies, IIPA, New Delhi concluded here today.
Minister of State for Technical Education & CA&PD, Vikar Rasool was the chief guest on the valedictory function.
Vice Chairman, IIPA, J&K Dr C.N Seth presented welcome address while as Prof Suresh Mishra read out report on the proceedings of workshop.
Addressing the function, the Minister said that sale of sub-standard food items, medicines and other essential commodities will be stopped with a heavy hand, adding that several consumer protection laws stand enforced for securing consumer rights. He said that various companies deceive and mislead consumers via their lucrative advertisements through print and electronic media which needs to be checked and curbed in larger consumer interest.
Responding to various suggestions which came up during the deliberations, the Minister announced launch of a helpline where consumers can register their grievances and seek information for the redressal of the same. He stressed the need for fast track consumer courts and a stringent action against the manufacturers and retailers, involved in unethical trade activities.
Giving details of steps taken by Government for consumer protection and their welfare, the Minister said that two Joint Director of CA&PD Department have been assigned particular responsibility to look after the consumers and their rights.
Earlier, Chairman J&K IIPA, Dr. Ashok Bhan and Sr. Advocate J&K High Court, D.S Chauhan also addressed the function while Dr. Sapna Chadah anchored the function and Hony Secretary JBS Johar proposed vote of thanks.
