JAMMU, Dec 17: Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (MoWR, RD & GR) Government of India today organized a workshop on Water Development and Management Issues under Jal Kranti Abhiyan in the Conference Hall of Directorate of Agriculture, Krishi Bhawan, Jammu.
The programme was arranged by Central Water Commission with cooperation of Department of Agriculture and Command Area Development, Jammu.
Mohd Ashraf Bukhari, Commissioner Secretary to Government Agriculture Prod-uction Department, J&K, graced the occasion as chief guest while Kushvinder Vohra, Commissioner (Indus), MoWR RD & GR, was the guest of honour.
While inaugurating the session, the chief guest emphasized on judicious use of each drop of water for the benefit of farmers, so that water is available for every field. He also highlighted the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions for water management. He also suggested that the farmers of different States should interact in these kinds of workshops and exposure visits may be made so that they can know the various aspects of Irrigation and Agriculture of other states.
Kushvinder Vohra while addressing the gathering informed that Jal Kranti Abhiyan was initiated by Uma Bharti, Minister for Water Resources, RD & GR, Government of India. He apprised the participants about objectives and main components of the Jal Kranti Abhiyan in detail and informed the farmers about the benefits of this programme.
The workshop was conducted in three sessions wherein Nitin Kaushal, president, INDIANPIM, YD Sharma, secretary, INDIANPIM and Onkar Singh Choudhary, Project Officer, CAD Jammu, gave power point presentations on Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM), Water Users Association (WUA) and Development of Agriculture and allied schemes, market linkages etc.
Bhupinder Singh, Senior Joint Commissioner, MOWR RD & GR, SK Shukla, Director M&A, CWC Jammu, Dr SS Jamwal, Director Agriculture Jammu, AK Malhotra, Director, CAD Jammu, Rajeev Gandotra, CE, I&FC Jammu, HC Jerath, CE, Ravi Tawi Irrigation Project, Rajeev Malhotra and Executive Director, CCDU, Government of J&K along with about 40 farmers from different villages attended the workshop.
