JAMMU, Dec 17: Department of Orthopaedics, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu in association with Cure India organized a one-day workshop on Ponseti’s Method of clubfoot management.
Doctors from Jammu & Kashmir participated in the CME. Dr Anil Agarwal (HoD Orthopaedics, Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya, Delhi) and Dr Rudra Prasad (HoD Orthopaedics, Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, Bangalore) conducted the sessions and trained doctors.
Ayushi Sudan (MD, NHM J&K) inaugurated the CME in the presence of Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma (Principal & Dean, GMC Jammu) and Dr Sanjeev Gupta (HoD Orthopaedics, GMC Jammu).
On the occasion, agreements were signed between Government of J&K and Cure India where in children with birth defects and children affected with development delays will be identified early and treatment will be ensured.
This is the 7th such training programme in J&K which Cure India is organizing for health professionals in J&K. Over 2500 children have already been treated under the initiative. Cure India has 335 designated clubfoot clinics across all the states in India and over 83,000 children are enrolled for this non-surgical method.
The course was attended by 63 Orthopaedic surgeons from different regions of J&K and Leh/Ladakh.
Dr Santosh George (National Director, Cure India) spoke about the vision of Cure India while Dr Atula Jamir (National Coordinator, Cure India) conducted interview for candidates to be recruited at various centers of Jammu to manage the children with deformities.
Basant Seyal (Nodal Officer for J&K), Rubia Hamid (State Coordinator J&K) and Jyoti Merry Sandhu were involved in organizing the event which concluded with vote of thanks presented by Professor Abdul Ghani (HoU Orthopaedics).
