Workshop on ‘Women empowerment through Science-Technology’ held

JAMMU, Feb 10: Centre for Molecular Biology, Central University of Jammu (CUJ) in collaboration with J&K Science, Technology and Innovation Council here today organized a one day workshop.
The theme of the workshop was ‘Women empowerment through Science and Technology’.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor CUJ, Prof. Ashok Aima focused on the application of scientific research for the development of the society and practical steps needed to improve women’s access to productive technologies.
Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed, Director Centre for Molecular Biology and Convener of the event highlighted the objective of organizing this workshop asserting on the need and significance of the empowering women for the growth of nation.
The keynote lecture was given by Dr. Asha Chaubey, Principal Scientist and Head, Fermentation Technology Division & Microbial Biotechnology Division, CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu who apprised the participants of the efforts done at global level for developing confidence amongst women in their capacities.
Technical lecture was given by the eminent speaker Dr. Vinod Gupta, Senior Scientist and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba. He delivered a talk on the concept of hydroponics to produce high quality, nutritious, pesticide-free economically potential food crops. He enlightened the participants about the ideas to create promotional avenues/opportunities for leadership and economic growth. He also gave a practical demonstration of the same.

Shruti Khanna, Additional Director/Incharge District Coordinator JKSTIC, DST was the Program Coordinator.
Dr. Shelly Sehgal, Assistant Professor, Centre for Molecular Biology and Organizing Secretary conducted the proceedings of the program.
