Workshop on promotion of Bamboo cultivation held

JAMMU, Mar 30: One day State level workshop on “Promotion of Bamboo Cultivation in J&K” was held at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu.
The workshop was organized by the Division of Agroforestry, SKUAST-Jammu under the National Bamboo Mission (NBM), GoI. Approximately 100 participants, including officers from the departments of Soil and Water Conservation, J&K State Forest Research Institute and Department of Agriculture and farmers from the districts of Jammu, Samba and Kathua attended the workshop.
SKUAST-J Vice-Chancellor, Prof P K Sharma, who was chief guest on the occasion, impressed on the need for developing marketing strategies for bamboo products to improve the livelihood of the farmers.
A K Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, announced that very shortly a Bamboosetum is coming up on an area of 100 acres in Jammu.
Director Research SKUAST-J, Dr J P Sharma and others also spoke on the occasion.
