JAMMU, Dec 1: World Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Day was observed here today.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat has called for launching a resolute fight against the HIV/AIDS with the active involvement of various sections of the society, particularly the educational institutions, social and religious organizations.
Addressing an impressive gathering at Government Women College, Gandhi Nagar here today at a function organized by the J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS) in connection the World AIDS Day, the Minister said eradicating the menace of HIV/AIDS is a common cause and concern for everybody, and this can be achieved with the concerted and collective efforts at different levels. He sought the support of the entire society and asked for contributing selflessly to contain this deadly disease and making the society HIV/AIDS free.
Minister of State for Health, Asiea Naqash, Project Director, J&K AIDS Control Society, Dr Sameer Mattoo, Principal, GWC, Gandhi Nagar, Dr Kiran Bakshi, several HoDs, faculty members, doctors, representatives of NGOs, social organizations, intellectuals, paramedics, students and senior functionaries of the JKACS were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion, the members of Red Ribbon Clubs taken out an impressive awareness rally by displaying banners and placards with slogans and messages to fight HIV/AIDs.. The rally was flagged off by the Ministers in presence of large number of students, faculty members and others.
The JKACS also arranged a colorful bonanza of theme based cultural items highlighting the cause with the help of famous folk cultural group Romalo Ram and party, students of the GCW, Gandhi Nagar and students of AMT School, GMC, Jammu that enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing performance. A competition for poster making and slogan writing was also organized on the occasion.
Ministers also distributed the mementoes to the winners of the competitions.
To observe World AIDS Day, District Health Department Udhampur organized a rally which started from District Hospital and culminated at District Hospital after passing through Hospital Road, Talab Sallian, Chabutra Bazar, Main Bazar, Gole Market, Dabber Chowk, Mukerjee Bazar, Ramnagar Chowk, Court Road, Salathia Chowk and Dhar Road. The students of all nursing and paramedical institutes of Udhampur participated in the rally.
World AIDS day was observed at Government Hospital Gandhi Nagarin collaboration with Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses, Mashwara Jammu wherein more than 100 nursing students participated. A poster making competition was organized, wherein first prize was shared by Sunita and Rozi, second prize was shared by Monisha, Apurva and Pankaj. The third award was shared by Apurba, Monisha, Rakhi and Manpreet. Dr Madhuri Slathia, Medical Superintendent distributed the awards among the winners along with Dr Arun Sharma, Deputy Medical Superintendent. Teaching faculty of nursing schools, Mohammad Nadeem, Sanitary Inspector and other officials were present on the occasion. Later a symposium was also organized in which various students participated and Dr Arun Sharma who is also master trainer of GFATM gave a detailed view of HIV/AIDS to the students.
NSS Units of GGM Science College organized a seminar on the theme ‘AIDS and its Prevention’ to observe World AIDS Day. The chief guest on the occasion was Dr Ashok Kumar, HOD Chemistry. The welcome address was presented by Dr Rajinder Singh, NSS Programme Officer. The speakers threw light on the topic in detail. Nitin Bakshi, Manik Gupta and Akanksha Mattoo were adjudged as first, second and third respectively. The judges of the event were Dr Suresh Bhat, Prof Mohammad Sadiq and Dr Jagjeet Singh. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Rajinder Singh.
Red Ribbon Club of Government MAM College in collaboration with NCC Unit and AIDS Control and Prevention Society organized an extension lecture on the topic “HIV/AIDS: Its Awareness and Prevention”. The resource person was Dr Abhishek Sharma, Chief Medical Officer, 89 Battalion BSF, who deliberate in length about AIDS spread, the social stigma associated and its presvention thereby sensitizing juvenile minds about the deadly disease setting the ball rolling so that it may acquire mega proportions. Principal of the college Prof Romesh Chander presented the welcome address. Dr Sangeeta Sudan, Nodal Officer, Red Ribbon Club presented vote of thanks.
Red Ribbon Club of Government PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar organized an AIDS Awareness Rally. On the occasion, Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College implored students to disseminate the information to all and sundry about this dreadful disease. Dr Manisha Kohli, Convenor Red Ribbon Club stressed upon the need of awareness of AIDS free society. On the occasion, the members of Red Ribbon Club Prof Ashwani Khajuria, Prof Malti Rajput, Prof Kiran Bala and Dr Shiv Mangal Singh were also present.
NSS Units and Red Ribbon Club of Govermment Degree College Udhampur organized an awareness lecture on the topic “HIV-AIDS: Its Causes and Preventions”. On the occasion, Prof Vishal Sharma from Department of Zoology gave a power point presentation reflecting in detail the history of the origin of AIDS, its causes and preventions. The students participated in the interactive session in which they took pledge to aware the common masses about HIV-AIDS and contribute in eradication of this dreaded decease from the society. Besides Dr Udhey Bhanu and Prof Suresh Kumar Dogra, NSS Officer, Prof Hans Raj Sharma, Convener, Red Ribbon Club, Prof Kamal Kishore, Prof Naresh Mathur and other faculty members were also present. The vote of thanks was proposed by Prof Suresh Kumar Dogra.
Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College Thannamandi observed World AIDS Day by organizing a technical lecture. Dr Ghulam Ahmad Chowdhary, Senior Medical Officer, Community Health Centre, Thannamandi was the chief guest on the occasion, who also delivered a detailed lecture on the causes and preventions of AIDS. The theme for this year was “Hands Up For HIV Prevention”. Principal of the college, Dr Shakeel Ahmad Raina presided over the programme and also threw light on the topic. Earlier, Nodal Officer Red Ribbon Club Prof Saleem Ayaz Rather presented the welcome address. The programme was compared by Prof Shaji Khan, whereas the vote of thanks was presented by Dr AR Qadri.
World AIDS Day was observed by NSS Wing of Government Degree College Kargil, wherein around 200 students participated. The program began with an introductory speech by Principal GDC Kargil, in which he urged the students not to involve in wrong activities and avoid AIDS but not the AIDS patients. Two students also presented a speech on AIDS, its control and prevention. A rally was also organized in the main bazaar from New Bas Stand, Chanchik to Maktab, Chankra Kargil with the Slogan “Know AIDS No Aids”. In the end, Prof Mohd Hussain, Asstt Prof Zoology and NSS Officer GDC Kargil presented vote of thanks.
World AIDS Day was observed by NSS Unit of Sant Mela Singh College of Education, Digiana. A slogan writing competition was organized, wherein 30 students of the college participated. The first prize was shared by Ravinder Kour and Gurpreet Kour of third semester, while the second prize was shared by Meenu, Sakshi, Nazia and Bhawana of third semester. The third prize was shared by Amanpreet Kour and Gurleen Kour of first semester. Prof Sewa Singh, Prof Inderjeet Kour and Prof Charanjeet Kour were the adjudicators. Prof Jasmeet Kour, NSS Programme Officer was also present on the occasion.
Inter-School Poster Making Competition was held at Tiny Tots Higher Secondary School to observe World AIDS Day. Students made posters on the theme “AIDS: Awareness is the key to Prevention”. The guests were welcomed by Gurpreet Handa. The competition adjudicator was Dr Kum Kum Sharma, HOD Blood Transfusion department ASCOMS Sidhra. Veena Handa, Chairperson of the Handa College of Education and Tiny Tots Group of Schools and Dr Vikram Handa, Principal of the School were also present. The first prize was shared by Tisha Arora from Model Academy and Suneha Manhas from Tiny Tots HSS, Sainik Colony, second prize was shared by Gauri Shanker of Tiny Tots HSS, Residency Road and Sonika of ASN HSS. The third prize was shared by Kanupriya Sharma of Sainik Public School and Shivang Chauhan of Tiny Tots HSS.
The consolation prizes were won by Ayushi from Little Flower School, Muskaan from New Modern HSS and Noor Jehan from Jammu Public School. In the end, Huma presented vote of thanks.
AIDS awareness program was organised on World AIDS Day at Government Higher Secondary School, Bhalwal by Jammu College of Physiotherapy with focus on educating the students and staff regarding AIDS, its prevention and various myths associated with it. Team comprised of Dr Amardeep, Dr Rimzim and students from various Profs presented the whole idea of AIDS and its prevention through a play followed by lecture by Dr Amardeep and Dr Rimzim on AIDS, its treatment and prevention with emphasis on zero discrimination. Harbans Lal, Principal of Government Higher Secondary School, Bhalwal and teaching staff of the school were also present. Suman Sharma, Chairperson of the college was also present on the occasion.
To make the students aware of the ill effects of AIDS, JK Montessorie School observed World AIDS Day. A special assembly was conducted by the students in which discrimination to wards of AIDS patients due to less awareness was highlighted. More light was thrown on the topic by the students by sharing the procedure of transfer of disease. School Director, Rajni Gupta, Vice Principal Geeta Dixit and Academic Head Pankaj Jamwal were also present.
Rich Harvest School observed World AIDS Day with the slogan “If you judge people you have no time to love them”. A special assembly was conducted wherein the students were told about the importance of the Day. To increase the awareness, Red Ribbons were worn and distributed to mark hope. Message of AIDS prevention was given by Trustee Ruchi Charak. Students’ Council read out to the school the causes and prevention of AIDS.
District Legal Services Authority, Udhampur observed World AIDS Day. A rally was organized by Chief Medical Officer along with the team of doctors, which was also attended by Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, SP Udhampur, Retainer Lawyers Anoop Gupta and Yasmeen. The students of ANMT School also participated in the rally, which started from District Hospital and after passing through bazaar concluded at ANMT School Udhampur.
Tehsil Legal Services Committee Udhampur today organised an awareness camp on the topic ‘World AIDS Day’ at Narsingh Dev Institute of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences Udhampur. Retainer Lawyers Sanjeet Kumar, Shahnaz Fatima and Deputy Chief Warden Civil Defence Udhampur generated awareness among the students, paralegal volunteers and staff members about the disease and its symptoms. They urged the students and others to support the people suffering from the disease.
