JAMMU, Apr 23: World Book Day was celebrated today with fervor and enthusiasm, underscoring the importance of literature and reading.
JKSCERT Divisional Office, Jammu celebrated the day by organizing an event which featured guest speaker Geetika Kohli, a renowned author, poetess and educator.
The program was convened under the guidance of Joint Director Prof Dr Sindhu Kapoor. Welcome address was presented by Dr Bhuvi. The theme of the program was dispensed briefly by Ruchi Mohan, Librarian SCERT, Jammu Division.

Geetika Kholi provided insight into the importance of literature in personal and societal development. She highlighted the power of books to ignite the spark of imagination, broaden the perspectives and foster empathy among young minds.
Faculty members of SCERT, Jammu- Monica Sharma, Shamim Nazki, Manu Vasudeva, . Bindia Balwal, Manisha Chun and Dr Jyoti Sudan shared their enriching experience in the form of self-composed poems, stories and excerpts from certain inspirational books.
Joint Director Prof Dr Sindhu Kapoor encouraged the participants to continue their journey of exploration through pages of Indian knowledge and age old books.
The program was moderated by Dr Bhuvi (Academic Officer) and formal vote of thanks was presented by Sultana Koser , Head, AU -I. The program was managed by team members of Library and Documentation Committee. The technical support was provided by Laxmi Puri, Rukhsana Gulbadan and Dr Sandeep Singh.
On the occasion of World Book Day, Government Degree College Kishtwar organized an Online Intra-college “Book Review” competition of the book “Wings of Fire”.
A good number of students of different semesters of the college participated in the said online competition. Payal Parihar of semester 2nd bagged first prize while Babber Wahid of semester 6th won second prize and the third prize was won by Nasir Shah of semester 2nd.
Principal of the college Prof Basharat Iqbal encouraged the students for their active participation. The competition was organized by Rafiq Ahmad Rather, Librarian of the college, assisted by Prof Vikram Singh Dr Tabasum Saleem and Dr Faizan Ahmad Lone (Department of English) who were Judges for the competition.
In order to commemorate the World Book Day, District Library Kathua organised an exhibition of books with the mission to highlight the importance of books.
In the exhibition readers of District Library Kathua, and prominent citizens actively participated and read the available books. The exhibition was inaugurated by esucationalist and renowned writer Sham Lal Khajuria and senior Journalist and reader of Kathua library Madan Mangotra
While addressing Sunil Sharma Librarian District Library Kathua, briefed the details of the programme. He threw light on the history and significance of World Book Day.
Sham Lal Khajuria appreciated the steps taken by the District Library to aware the youth about the importance of this day. He motivated the students to make habit of reading books in their life.
Active reader Ruhi, Mohit, Pallvi also shared their views on the importance of books Madan Mangotra assured full support to the District Library, Kathua.
Aadarsh Bhartiya Samaj, a social volunteer organization, working to promote education, environment, health and nationhood among the general masses and students community in particular, celebrated ‘World Book Day’ under the guidance of Col (Retd) R K Sharma, Chairman and S Daljeet Singh, President-ABS at its Library with the message ‘Purchase Book, Read Book and Donate Book to educate each one’.
On the occasion, Manmeet Kour (Educationist), Dr Ravti Parshad, Arti Kohli, Ex Nk Ajay Kumar, Dr Lalit Sharma, Anil Sharma, Sunita Sharma and Chaman Lal Sharma donated books to the school going children.
Aadarsh Bhartiya Samaj is running a social library for last 35 years in the locality.
