World Day against Child Labour observed across J&K

JAMMU, June 12: World Day against Child Labour was observed across Jammu and Kashmir by various Government organizations including educational and social and institutions.
The Day was observed by District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Samba by organizing a webinar under the supervision of Sonia Gupta, Chairman, DLSA (Principal District & Sessions Judge). While highlighting the importance of the day, DLSA Chairman gave an overview of the plight of child laborers and what can be done to help them. Pradyot Gupta, Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC), Udhampur and Rohit Khajuria, Coordinator, Childline, Jammu were the resource persons in the programme.
DLSA Bhaderwah also organized a webinar to observe World Day against Child Labour. Secretary DLSA (Sub Judge) Mudassir Farooq, General Manager DIC Doda Kahlid Akhter, ALC Doda, Principal GDC Bhaderwah and Social Welfare Officer Doda participated in the webinar. Khalid Akhter asked the business community to shoulder the social responsibility and eradicate child labour, which would help in holistic growth of the city and the country. Resource Person Advocate Mohd Majid Malik threw light on The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regularization) Act of 1986.
To observe the Day, DLSA Udhampur organized an online awareness event to raise awareness among the students about the plight of child labourers worldwide, under the guidance of Chairman DLSA, Udhampur, Y P Bourney. Sub Judge, Rajni Sharma (Secretary DLSA Udhampur), ALC Pradyot Gupta and Chairperson Child Welfare Committee Udhampur Sharaz Hadayat participated in the event. Advocate Balwan Singh was the resource person.
DLSA Reasi organised an online programme on World Day against Child Labour on the theme ‘Act Now: End Child Labour” in collaboration with all Government Higher Secondary Schools of the district, under the supervision of R N Wattal, Chairman, DLSA Reasi. Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary (DLSA Reasi), Roopali Gandotra (ALC Reasi) and CWC Member Reasi Gypsy Badyal spoke on the occasion. A number of other activities were also organized by DLSA Reasi.
The Day was also observed by Jammu and Kashmir Child Protection Services. Speaking on the occasion, Mission Director, Child Protection Services J&K, Shabnam Shah Kamili, said that elimination of child labour is our main agenda as it is not only a legal offense but unacceptable in a civilized society. She said that events of child labour can be reported anonymously on helpline number set up by the Childline India Foundation (CIF) to aid children in distress.
To mark the occasion, Bicycle for Change Club, Kathua organized a short ride of 30 km to sensitize people about rights of children and help children in securing their childhood. The cycle ride started from Captain Sunil Choudhary Chowk and passed through Shastrinagar, Hatlimorh, Lakhhanpur, Dhanna, Basantpur, Barni and finished at Captain S C Chowk. Cyclist Advocate Rahul Sharma appealed citizens of Kathua report child labour or any other child related abuse to concerned authorities.
World Anti Child Labour Day was marked by series of awareness activities across Reasi district. The activities along with awareness programmes were held under the supervision of District Child Protection officer Gulshan Kumar, which included inspection by District Level Child Labour Task Force in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority in the market of Katra and Reasi to check any malicious child labour activity. Awareness about the evils of child labour was also created among the public.
Government Degree College (GDC) Dudu Basant Garh organized an online Inter -College Essay Writing Competition on the theme “Child Labour–a challenge for society”. The competition took place under the supervision of College Principal Dr Bhavnaish Chand. Students from various colleges of Jammu & Kashmir participated in the event. E-certificates were given to all the winners.
To observe the Day, Department of Economics, GDC Batote under the patronship of Prof Rajesh Gupta organized an online quiz competition. The main purpose of the programme was to bring awareness among the students regarding the prohibition of child labour of any kind. In total, 44 participants from different colleges have participated in the competition.
GDC Vijaypur observed World Day against Child Labour by organizing an online lecture on “Prohibition of Child Labour”. Students enthusiastically participated in the lecture. Dr Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College, exhorted that child labour is a crime. She said that asking or forcing a child to work that deprives him/her from his/her childhood activities come under child labour.
