World Elders Day celebrated

JAMMU, Oct 1: World Elders Day was celebrated across the State with enthusiasm.
Social Welfare Department today celebrated World Elders Day at Akhnoor. Dr Bharat Bhushan, Director, Social Welfare alongwith Supriya Kohli, Deputy Director, Administration, Kuldeep Singh, Deputy Director Planning, Archana Kumari, Chief Accounts Officer of the Directorate, Ajay Salaan, Assistant Director, Administration visited the Old Age Home “Sewa Samiti” Akhnoor and celebrated the day with the elders.
President of the Old Age Home Sewa Samiti Akhnoor Krishan Gopal presented the welcome address.
The trainees of Social Welfare Vocational Training Centre, Akhnoor presented a skit on the importance of taking proper care of elderly parents. A trainee also recited a poem on the theme.
Later, the Department conducted a cake cutting ceremony in which inmates were provided light refreshment, cake and small gifts as a token of love and respect. A sapling of Amla was also planted by Director Social Welfare in the premises of Old Age Home.
Ranbishwer Jamwal, District Social Welfare Officer, Jammu, Dheeraj Lakhnotra, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer, Akhnoor, Section Officer Bansi Lal of Directorate of Social Welfare, craft teachers, social workers and supervisors were also present on the occasion.
Help Age India Leh celebrates World Elderly Day in Leh today. On the occasion, a Signature Campaign was carried out at Leh main Bazaar with a purpose to appeal the public to take care of the elderly people in the society.
On the occasion, the chief guest was Deputy Commissioner Leh Avny Lavasa, while Chief Medical Officer Dr Morup Dorjay was also present.
Earlier, the welcome speech was presented by Help Age India Project Manager Mohammad Ali Abassi.
A Manual “Home Care” for elderly assistance was launched on the occasion and students of JNV presented a skit to educate the masses to take care of the elderly people.
On International Elders Day, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)-53 Battalion conducted a programme at North Kashmir’s Border town Baramulla for old aged persons in order to send a message among youth of the nation to respect the elderly people.
On the occasion, 53 Bn CRPF gifted traditional Kashmiri Pheran to elders as a token of love to Old aged persons. During the programme, CRPF 53 BN provided healthcare services to 120 patients suffering from communicable, skin and water borne disease and cold injuries. During the camp around 20 senior citizens were treated and given free medicines.
Commandant of 53 Bn CRPF Vinay Kumar Tiwari, SDM Uri, GM NHPC Uri, JKP officials, CISF officials and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
To celebrate World Elders Day, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) presented Dogri musical play “Sari Shan Bajurge Da Maan” in coordination with Sangam Tru Art Production and National College of Computer Education Janipur. The play was written, produced and directed by ML Dogra, renowned writer and musical play director. The play was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr AC Bhagat, Former Chief Officer, Department of Animal Husbandry in presence of Dr Tara Singh Charak, Former Deputy Director, Health Department, VK Magotra, Former Regional Director, Directorate of Field Publicity, Government of India, RP Amla, Event Director and Dr Anju Kumari Dogra from Directorate of Health Services. The singers, musician, actors and students who performed in the play were Usha Handoo, KK Joshi, Raju Bajgal, Rajni Gupta, Sapna Devi, Kuldeep Raj, Mohammad Afroz, Shiv Kumar and Rahul Raina. In the end, Deepak Kumar presented vote of thanks.
On the occasion of International Elders Day, Helpage India Jammu organized a signature campaign which was followed by panel discussion to support the demand for universal pension for elders. The program was organized in collaboration with Department of Social Work Central University of Jammu. On the occasion, Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Ashok Aima was the chief guest.
