World Health Day celebrated with great enthusiasm across J&K

JAMMU, Apr 7: World Health Day was celebrated today by various health, educational and other institutions across Jammu and Kashmir on this year’s theme “Health for all”.
In this connection, a programme was organized at SKIMS by the Department of Hospital Administration. Director SKIMS and EOSG Prof Parvaiz A Koul who was the chief guest on the occasion in his address highlighted the main issues concerning the health system across the world. Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS Dr Bashir A Laway, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr Farooq A Jan and Dr G H Yatoo (HoD, Hospital Administration, SKIMS) also spoke about the current health problems. On the occasion, a screening cum awareness camp diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and cancers was organized by the Department of Community Medicine (SKIMS) at Health and Wellness Center Chewa and CHC Hajin.
An impressive program on World Health Day was organized in Dhanvantri Kunj Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu under the supervision of Dr Vandana Dogra (Medical Superintendent). Director AYUSH J&K Dr Mohan Singh presided over the program. Highlighting the importance of Health Day, Dr Mohan Singh emphasized that AYUSH is emerging as one of the major stakeholder in achieving the health for all by 2025. He also unveiled IEC material specially designed for the promotion and propagation of importance of millets and their role in health.
To mark the celebrations of World Health Day, Dr Iqbal Singh (HoD, Public Health Dentistry, Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu) and his team comprising of Dr Renu Bhagat, Dr Anu Gandral, Dr Amita Parihar and Dr Manisha Koul conducted various health awareness programs. Also online webinars were conducted for various schools across Jammu district in which health awareness education was provided to school children. An oral health screening camp was also conducted at Bal Niketan Orphanage, Amphalla. Many health education camps were also conducted in slum areas.
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bhaderwah in collaboration with Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah observed “World Health Day” in the premises of Crescent Public School Bhaderwah. BMO Bhaderwah Dr Ashraf was the chief guest on the occasion. Resource person Advocate Mohd Majid Malik highlighted the importance of World Health Day. All PLVs of DLSA were also present on the occasion.
DLSA Samba organized a Health and Wellness Programme on the eve of World Health Day at Bhargava Public School, Samba. The programme was presided over by Dr Davinder Kumar (Community Health Officer, Government Emergency Hospital, Vijaypur). He spoke about the ways by which one can keep good health. DLSA Deputy Legal Counsel Officer Nisha Kumari and Principal of the School, Subhash Kumar Baldotra were also present.
NSS unit of Bhaskar Degree College Udhampur organized a guest lecture on ‘World Health Day’, under the guidance of Dr SK Magotra (Principal of the College), who spoke about the importance of health and well being. Resource person, Dr Chander Kanta (District Immunization Officer) discussed the mental as well as physical health issues of people facing in today’s time. She further focused on healthy diet and healthy living.
DLSA Bhaderwah observed “World Health Day” in collaboration with Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah at Crescent Public School Bhaderwah. BMO Bhaderwah Dr Ashraf was the chief guest on the occasion. Resource Person, Advocate Mohd Majid Malik highlighted the importance of World Health Day and said that right to health is a fundamental right guaranteed to every citizen of India under Article-21 of the constitution of India.
The Department of Community Medicine, GMC Doda celebrated the Day by organizing various events focusing on this year’s theme “Health for All”. Dr Walied K Balwan (Senior Resident) gave a speech about current public health problems and their impact, followed by a lecture by Dr Suresh K Kotwal, (HoD Community Medicine) on the global scenario, achievements and challenges in the public health sector. Various events, including seminars and poster presentations, were held on the occasion.
Similar programs were held at Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) Ghat and Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) Bhalla. HOD Community Medicine Dr Suresh K Kotwal attended the event, with logistic support provided by Chief Accounts Officer Mr. Mohd Iqbal, and support from staff of the Department of Community Medicine and Audio-Visual section of GMC Doda. Appreciation certificates and trophies were distributed among the participating MBBS students.
To commemorate the Day, NSS Unit “Imdad” of Government Degree College (GDC) Darhal under the guidance of the College Principal Prof Mussaraf Hussain organized a Poster-Making Competition based on the theme “Health for All” with the aim to impart awareness among the masses and youth in particular, to improve understanding of universal health coverage and the importance of primary health care. Students of the College enthusiastically participated in the competition.
Department of Zoology in collaboration with Department of Physical Education, GDC Thannamandi organized a programme under the theme “Health for All”. The programme was organized under the patronage of Principal Prof (Dr) Farooq Ahmed. An extension lecture on meditation for students was delivered by Ex-IPS officer Rajan Singh who stressed on giving small time to develop healthy habits in daily life. Dr Farooq Ahmed stressed on the need to develop mental health.
Government Degree College for Women, Kathua organized a seminar on “Health Wellbeing and Sports-Agenda for Youth” to celebrate World Health Day. The chief guest of the function was Dr Savi Behl (Principal of the College). Students of the college presented their views on the importance of Health Wellbeing and Sports. Dr Savi Behl, while speaking on the occasion, stressed upon healthy living that is to eat well, avoid junk foods, sleep on time, managing stress and exercising regularly.
A programme was also organized at GDC Bani to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the World Health Organization. Principal of the College Prof (Dr) Manisha Sarup Kohli while speaking on the theme of the occasion explained in detail the effect of mental stress on the health and well-being of the individuals and said it is the responsibility of every human being to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable so that everyone can attain the highest level of health.
On World Health Day, Renowned Neurologist of North India, Dr Ashok Uppal made people aware of good health at Uppal Neuro and Multispeciality OPD Clinic, Kaluchak, Jammu. Dr Uppal said that due to the changing lifestyle of the people, many diseases such as blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol have started an early age. He gave some tips to stay healthy.
To mark World Health Day, Nitish Mahajan, Co-incharge Social Media Department of J&K BJP today initiated a plantation drive at Trikuta Nagar area of Jammu in presence of prominent citizens of the area. Speaking on the occasion, Nitish Mahajan said that the theme of this year’s “Health for All” is making us realize the importance of a healthy and pollution-free environment for our better health.
Rotary Club Rajouri Grand organized a mega free medical camp at Matrix Hospital, Jawahar Nagar in the presence of Dr Mehmood Ahmed (Medical Superintendent, GMC Rajouri). Hundreds of patients were examined in the camp free of cost and free medicines distributed among them. Rotary Club Grand president Amardeep Singh along with office bearers was present on the occasion.
World Health Day was also celebrated in Ladakh as health awareness programmes were organized at different places in Kargil district viz. Government Middle school Thang Lankerchey, Government Girls Middle School Thasgam and ABH & Wellness Center at Lankerchey. During the programmes, Health experts gave tips for being healthy. They also spoke on the importance of health education to the school children.
To mark the occasion, Nursing Colleges of IUST organized health awareness programmes at various hospitals like SKIMS Soura, IMHANS, SDH Bijbehara, SDH Pampore and SDH Tral under the guidance of Principal SMMCN&MT Dr Asmat Parveen. Faculty members and students of the Institute also took part in awareness programmes.
Interaction Forum Jammu Province organized a meeting at Jammu under the chairmanship of BP Singh Jamwal (Retired IAS). During the meeting, Forum members laid stress on approaching the Government of India and Lt Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha to declare health as a fundamental right of the citizens of J&K. The stress was also on the improvement of environment quality around the cities of J&K.
To commemorate the Day, a team of doctors deputed by concerned BMO on the directions of CMO Ganderbal organized a free health checkup camp for the students at Kirmania Model High School, Batwina (Ganderbal). Free medicines to the needy students were also made available during the camp.
Ayushman Bharat- Health and Wellness Center, PHC Chushul observed World Health Day with the theme “Health For All” at Chushul village and Govt Middle School.
Dr Anchal Kumar gave awareness among the students and people regarding the benefits of adopting a healthy lifestyle, well balanced diet and importance of NCD screening.
The Day was also celebrated by the team of Health and Wellness Centre (HWC) at Goverment Residential High School, Sato Kargyam.
A painting competition was also conducted on the occasion.
