World Health Day observed across J&K

JAMMU, Apr 7: World Health Day was observed across Jammu and Kashmir today with a spirit of responsibility and dedication. A wide range of activities and awareness programs were organized by health institutions, educational establishments, and social organizations to mark the occasion and promote the theme “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures”.
District Hospital Bandipora, in partnership with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora, marked World Health Day with an impactful event centered on health awareness, legal empowerment, and climate change. The event was inaugurated by Khaleel Ahmad Chaudhary, Chairman DLSA and Principal District & Sessions Judge Bandipora at Auditorium, Bandipora.
Dr Masarat Iqbal Wani, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Bandipora, enlightened the audience about Government healthcare schemes and awareness programs, urging people to take full advantage of these life-improving services. The highlight of the event was an inspiring address by Chairman DLSA stressed the importance of empowering citizens with both health knowledge and legal awareness.
Health Centre, Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir in collaboration with District Non-Communicable Disease Division, CMO and BMO Ganderbal, Dental and Oral section, District Hospital Ganderbal and Kashmir Eye Hospital observed “World Health Day” at Varsity’s Tulmulla Campus. Inaugurating the programme, Vice Chancellor, Prof A Ravinder Nath, emphasized the importance of preventive care, early interventions, and community-based health education for ensuring a healthier tomorrow.
Department of Community Medicine at Government Medical College (GMC) Doda under the guidance of Dr Suresh Kotwal, Head of the Department, and the leadership of Principal Dr Rakesh Bahl, celebrated the Day by organizing a thought-provoking Undergraduate Quiz Competition. The quiz focused on key subjects such as maternal and child health, health equity, nutrition, disease prevention, and healthcare systems.
Bee Enn Nursing Institute in collaboration with Bee Enn College of Nursing celebrated “World Health Day”. The programme started with lighting of lamp. Nursing Professional Neetu Sharma (Principal BNNI) presented a knowledgeable session on health for our hopeful futures. The ceremony was graced by J C Frank (Principal BECON) and chief guest Dr Arun Sharma. Dr Sharma discussed about the theme of World Health Day to strive for healthier and happier world.
To mark the occasion, the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) Jammu (Samba)-PDUNIPPD, New Delhi under DEPWD, Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, hosted a special event featuring a free medical and awareness camp, in collaboration with AYUSH Department. This event also included an assessment camp organized by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India. The event began with a welcome address by Dr Rohnika Sharma, Director, CRC Jammu (Samba).
Government Degree College (GDC), Ramgarh, organized an energetic and engaging Table Tennis match on the occasion of World Health Day, to encourage students to prioritize their health and well-being while fostering a spirit of discipline and leadership through sports. The event took place under the guidance of Principal Prof (Dr) Meeru Abrol, who emphasized the significance of sports in contributing to physical and mental well-being, particularly on World Health Day.
GDC Paloura (Mishriwala) celebrated the Day by organizing a series of events and activities under the guidance of Principal Dr Kulvinder Kour, with the aim to promote health awareness and well-being among students and the staff. Vikram Jamwal, HoD Physical Education, stressed on promoting healthy lifestyle while Dr Sikander Shabab Khan, HoD Veterinary Technology, keynote speaker of the programme, delivered a lecture on ‘Promoting long-term health of mothers and newborns’.
On the occasion of World Health Day, members of Movement Kalki visited Springdale Higher Secondary School, Jammu, to conduct a special awareness session focusing on health, drug prevention, and environmental consciousness among students. The awareness campaign was led by Pawan Sharma, In-Charge of the Anti-Drug Campaign of Movement Kalki. Speaking to the students, Pawan Sharma emphasized that a balanced diet is the foundation of a healthy future.
Army Public School Damana celebrated the Day with a series of informative activities aimed at promoting the importance of health and well-being. The day began with a special morning assembly led by the students of Class X D, who highlighted the significance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Thereafter, various Inter-Class CCA and Athletic activities to reinforce the importance of healthy living were organized. The event was graced by the presence of Dr Suman Shan as a special guest while the School Principal Pushpinder Kaur was also present.
PM SHRI Government Girls High School Batote organized a guest lecture to raise health awareness among adolescent girls on World Health Day. Dr Ankula Manhas, a public health specialist and the keynote speaker, addressed over 200 girls from classes 6 to 10. She spoke about the importance of menstrual hygiene, balanced nutrition, mental health, and the risks of early marriage. Interactive sessions allowed students to voice their concerns and ask questions freely.
The Day was observed with great enthusiasm at Government ANMT School Poonch. The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and health officials. Chief Medical Officer Poonch, Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle from an early age and elaborated on the significance of preventive healthcare. Faculty of ANMT School, including Rohit Sharma, Gulfam Akther, Humma Bukhari and Anita Rajan, also spoke on the occasion.
District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Samba under the guidance of R N Watal (Chairman, DLSA) observed ‘World Health Day’ in collaboration with Department of Health at District Hospital Samba. This year’s theme kicks off a year-long campaign on maternal and newborn health. Sandeep Singh Sen, Secretary DLSA Samba, highlighted critical issues for global health which underpins lifelong health, stronger communities, and collective future. Officers of Legal Aid Defense Counsel Samba also spoke on the working of the District Legal Services Authority, Samba.
