JAMMU, Sept 29: World Heart Day, which is observed every year on September 29, for raising awareness about cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and strokes, was celebrated across Jammu region by various health and other institutions.
In this connection, a programme was organized in the premises of Government Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu. The program was attended by Member of Parliament for Rajya Sabha, Shamsher Singh Manhas, Principal, GMC Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina, HoD Cardiology, Dr Sushil Sharma and other doctors.
In her opening address, Dr Sunanda Raina elaborated on the importance of this day and made the invitees aware about the do’s and don’ts to be taken into consideration in order to have a healthy heart in our bodies.
MP Manhas while speaking on this occasion said that campaigns like this which are focused on looking after our own hearts and the hearts of our loved ones are prestigious and noble. “In modern times, one should make a promise to his own heart for taking care of it in a healthy way and should say no to smoking”, he added.
“Now-a-days, people have been mostly dependent upon fast food and thus inviting heart attacks. One should avoid this and should spare some from our busy schedule to take care of our body and heart to live an exemplary and healthy life,” he reiterated.
Dr Sushil Sharma also addressed the gathering and suggested various steps that one should take to keep the heart healthy and free from any ailment.
World Heart Day was also observed in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) College of Nursing, where a special session for staff of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was organized. A team of students from SMVD College of Nursing under the supervision of Neha Bharti, Nursing Tutor, Vijay Singh and Raghuvir Singh participated in a role play session.
The students demonstrated the ill effects of smoking, diabetes mellitus, alcohol, stress, unhealthy food, sedentary life style, and alike on healthy heart which leads to many diseases, fatal attacks and untimely death. The event was coordinated by Surinder Kumar, Chief Security Officer, SMVDU. Dr Balbir Singh, Associate Professor, SMVDU also spoke on the pre-emptive measures to ensure good physical & mental health so that one may serve longer to family, society and the nation.
Meanwhile in connection with World Heart Day, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) in coordination with Sangam Tru Art Production and National College of Computer Education presented Dogri musical play ‘Bacho Bacho Heart Tek Cha Bacho’ at open air theatre, Durga Bhawan, Janipur, Jammu.
Various songs specially prepared on the theme “bacho bacho- heart tek- cha bacho”, “tandursati hazar nimayat”, “kal ki chakki chalti rehti pal pal jalta hai insane – chato chato re insane”, “Nasha Nai Kario Munde Kureio”, ” Bacho Bacho Tobacoo Kola Bacho”, “Nai Pee Shraban”, “Bari Kharab Chutki “, were presented on the occasion. Nukkad, skits and dances were also presented to aware the masses.
