World Heritage Day celebrated

JAMMU, Apr 18: Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Jammu and Kashmir today celebrated World Heritage Day.
In this regard, a special exhibition of Miniature Paintings of Jammu School was organised by the Dogra Art Museum.
A powerpoint presentation on various monuments of Jammu division was also shown to the visitors and students as a special attraction to the event.
The event started with the lighting of the traditional lamp by MLA Yudhvir Sethi and Curator Dogra Art Museum Jammu Mukul Magotra.
The MLA appreciated the efforts of the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums for organizing the event.
A number of schools visited the Museum where they have shown keen interest in craft, objects and artefacts which are on display inside the Museum.
To celebrate the day, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan performed Play “Sadi Barast & Skit Nasha Mukt Bharat”.
The play is written and directed by Dr M L Dogra.
A pledge was also administered to more than 250 students / teachers and the certificate by the Ministry of Social Justice was presented to the Principal of the host school.
To celebrate World Heritage Day, Indian National Trust for Art, Culture and Heritage (INTACH) sub chapter Udhampur start documentation of water bodies such as Stepwell and Boalies in Udhampur District.
The members of Intach today visited and documented various historical Boalies in Udhampur city.
Anil Paba co-Convener INTACH sub-chapter Udhampur has observed that many water bodies such as Stepwell and Boalies in Udhampur have been buried, encroached upon or left neglected due to urbanisation, modernisation and lack of awareness about their cultural and historical significance.
Paba said that since water is revered as a fundamental element of life, a source of purification and a symbol of divine power.
“So it is the responsibility of society to protect its sources, highlighting its crucial role in the balance of society and environment,” he said.
