JAMMU, Nov 23: Department of Archives, Archeology and Museum in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University celebrated World Heritage Week at Charai Muttal Baolis.
Prof R K Sinha, Vice Chancellor of SMVDU was the chief guest on the occasion.
The event was thronged by academicians, heritage enthusiasts, archeologists, architects, story tellers, writers and art lovers.
Prof R K Sinha emphasized the need for appreciating the heritage of India and exhorted the students to develop keen interest in the rich heritage and culture of India.
Dr Sangeeta Sharma, Assistant Director Archives apprised the gathering about the rich heritage of Jammu region. ” Charai Muttal Bawlis represent the zenith of Bawli architecture in Jammu region ” she said.
She guided the participants on a heritage walk around the beautiful Bawlis and explained the nuances of sculptures carved on the walls of the water body.
Krishan Singh retired teacher an avid story teller explained the legend surrounding the construction of Bawlis. ”
The richly carved walls around the Bawlis and aqueducts has footprints of Rajasthani art” he said.
Students from SMVDU and Government College of Education Jammu recited Saraswati Vandana and Dogri poems on the occasion.
Prof Sakshi Arora and Prof Rakesh Kymar Thussu of Board of Cultural Activities SMVDU coordinated the event.
Nagendra Singh Jamwal Registrar SMVDU, Arvind Kotwal JKAS Retd. and Sunny Dua Journalist were also present on the occasion.
The GCOE team was led by Prof Shapia Shameem, Prof Sarita Dogra and Prof Seema Kumari.
