JAMMU, Apr 25: World Malaria Day was observed today in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir under the overall supervision of Secretary Health & Medical Education Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah.
Under the guidance of Director Health Services Jammu Dr Rakesh Magotra and with the teamwork of all the staff working under the administrative control of Dr DJ Raina, (State Malariologist) various activities were organized. At National level, Nodal Officer of the Provincial Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu participated in a one-day technical workshop on elimination of Malaria targeted by 2027.
The IEC activities included the publishing of IEC material in leading UT and local newspapers. The information was also spread by TV interviews. Also the information regarding Malaria was spread on Akashwani Jammu, educating the people about various aspects of prevention and control of malaria. Information to the people was also given through interviews on 91.8 Red FM, 90.4 FM Sharda and 95.0 FM Tadka.
The State Malariologist addressed an assembly of around 1500 students in Army School Nagrota as a part of Civil Army collaboration for percolation of the message in the community at large through school children.
World Malaria Day was also observed at Provincial Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar in which gathering of AMT students, Malaria workers, staff of the Gandhi Nagar Hospital among others was addressed by the State Malariologist, Deputy Director Health Services Jammu and Medical Superintendent of Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar (Jammu).
The Day was also observed at various District headquarters and Block headquarters as well as health care institutes. The awareness on Malaria was also spread among community by house to house visits. Also the IEC campaign was done through various WhatsApp groups and also on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter).
The banners containing the IEC material were displayed at prominent points for general awareness of the public.
