World Mental Health Day observed across J&K, Ladakh

JAMMU, Oct 10: World Mental Health Day was observed today by various educational educations across the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh by organizing various impactful events. This year’s theme was “It Is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace.”
To mark the occasion, Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies and Research (CMSR), Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri organized an extension lecture on the theme ‘ Mental Health at Workplace’. The lecture was delivered by Dr Parvaiz Alam, HoD Psychiatry, GMC Rajouri. Prof Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor of the University in his message said that the aim of celebrating World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness among students and staff about mental health issues and taking necessary measures to address mental health. On the occasion, College of Nursing, BGSBU organized a webinar by inviting eminent health care professionals to speak on the various issues related to mental health.
In Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research (JIAR), various PowerPoint presentations were delivered by postgraduate scholars and undergraduate students. Additionally, a skit was performed by first- and second-year students. The event provided a valuable opportunity to discuss mental health openly, advocate for improved mental health services, and address the stigma associated with mental illness. The event was organized by the Department of Panchkarma.
Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing, Chak Bhalwal (Jammu) along with the Post Basic BSc (N) 2nd year and GNM 2nd year students conducted awareness programme on World Mental Health Day. The culminating event for World Mental Health Day took place at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Gharota (Jammu), was graced by SK Bhat (Principal, JNV Gharota). The Nursing students performed a thought-provoking role-play on importance of mental well-being, coping strategies for stress and anxiety and ways to foster resilience in the workplace.
On World Mental Health Day, the Department of Psychology, PSPS Government College for Women, Gandhinagar (Jammu) organized a PowerPoint presentation, Seminar and Wall Magazine Activity on the theme “Mental Health at Workplace” to raise awareness about mental health, reduce stigma, and promote a supportive environment at workplace. Dr Ujjwal Sharma, HoD Psychology, highlighted the need for managing mental health care at workplace. Principal, Dr SP Saraswat encouraged the students to implement the theoretical knowledge into their daily life thus preventing mental illness.
Department of Psychology, Elizer Joldan Memorial College also celebrated the ”World Mental Health Day” following the theme released by World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH). The program started by honoring the key-speaker Kunzes Dolma Clinical Psychologist by Dr Sameena Iqbal Principal EJM College with traditional ‘khataq’. Following this, students of Psychology also presented an informative skit to spread the awareness related to negative mental health and stigma related to the treatment of psychological disorders. They also performed a beautiful dance and sang a motivational song to develop the skill of resilience and self-esteem.
A series of impactful events including a Poster-Making Competition, a Skit Competition and a speech revolving around the theme of mental health were organized today at Government College of Education (GCoE). The events were organized by Psychological Counselling Cell in collaboration with the Literary Club and Physical Education Department of the College. The event was graced by Dr Jyoti Parihar, Principal of the College. Dr Shahnawaz Choudhary and RJ Juhie from Big 92.7 FM served as guests of honor.
In observance of World Mental Health Day, BMO Nowshera, Dr Iqbal Malik, in collaboration with the Tehsil Legal Service Committee Nowshera, organized an event to raise awareness about mental illnesses. The event was conducted under the supervision of the Director of Health Services, Jammu, Dr Rakesh Magotra, and the Chief Medical Officer, Rajouri, Dr Manohar Rana. During the event, Dr Malik, who also holds the charge of the District Mental Health Programme Rajouri, delivered a PowerPoint presentation and interacted with ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, prominent citizens, PRI members, and NGOs. He provided a comprehensive lecture on mental disorders.
The students of Ramisht College of Education Basohli organized a series of activities at Government UPS Barla Chaughan (Basohli) to promote mental health awareness and well being. The theme of Day was “Mental Health for all Prioritizing well being in Education”. The students spread awareness among the community regarding the importance of mental health by organizing a rally.
‘THE – SARA’, a Non-Government organization in collaboration with Counselling cell of Directorate of School Education Jammu observed World Mental Health Day at Government Higher Secondary School, Dablehar (RS Pura, Jammu). A range of activities like yoga session, debate competition and poster making competition were organized to address the growing concern of mental health among the students.
