World Philosophy Day observed at SMVDU

KATRA, Nov 22: To observe the World Philosophy Day, one-day seminar on the theme “Self and Corruption” was organized by the School of Philosophy and Culture, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, here today.
Prof Sudhir K Jain, the Vice Chancellor, SMVD University and the chief guest on the occasion highlighted four dimensions of corruption namely Scientific and Technological, Psychological, Economic, and Philosophical. Very aptly he remarked that instead of blaming the corruption, we need to be innovative in creating systems that can check and minimize the possibility of corruption. Submitting some suggestions he mentioned that the elected representations should be authorized to appoint right people at right place and they should not be given the absolute power to rule.
Dr Ashok K Tarai presented the theme of the seminar, which was followed by an enchanting address by Prof V K Bhat, Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, SMVDU.
Prof Bhat highlighted the importance of scholarly reflection on such a burning issue and the role of philosophers of our society in giving a new direction to our generation.
Prof M Tajuddin, Dr Ashutosh Vashishth, Dr V K Tripathi and Sumantha S Sharma also addressed the gathering.
Prof Ved Kumari Ghai, the renowned Indologist and social activist from Jammu held the chair and presented her thoughts on the theme.
Many students and faculty members from various neighboring colleges namely MAM College Jammu, R K Dogra College Akhnoor and Government College for Women Udhampur participated in the seminar.
Two students Gaurav Singh and Shubham Tiwari from SMVD University also presented their views on the topic. The seminar was full of lively discussion, interesting and innovative suggestions.
