JAMMU, Oct 9: The Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle celebrated World Post Day across Union Territory of J&K today. The theme of this year’s World Post Day is ” Together for Trust”.
Post Master General, Jammu Region, Col Vinod Kumar while speaking to the media-persons at Meghdoot Bhawan, Jammu on this occasion informed that World Post Day is celebrated on the anniversary of establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in the year 1874.
He further revealed that the basic purpose of celebration of World Post Day is to create awareness about the role of Postal Services in the everyday life of the people and businesses as well as its contribution to global, social and economic development.
Col Vinod informed that UPU sets the rules for international mails exchanges and recommends to improve quality of services for the customers.
He further said that National Postal Week will be observed from October 10 to Oct 13, 2023 across India and each day during this week, will have emphasis on specific services while following activities, which are going to be conducted in this connection. The first day of this week has been declared as Vittiya Sashaktikaran Diwas. On this day, Dak Community Development Program-Dak Choupal will be organized in each Division of J&K Postal Circle including UT of Ladakh.
Second day of the National Postal Week will be celebrated as `Philately Dayon’. Dhai Akhar-`Digital India for New India’ awareness program will be held in various schools across J&K on October 11. `Mails and Postal Day’ program will be held on October 12 by organizing customer meet for bulk customers while to spread awareness about Aadhar enrolment/ updation, Antyodya Diwas will be held on October 13. Special camps will be organized on this day for the public. Financial literacy campaign will also be carried out on this day to adopt safety measures while doing digital payments and to avoid online frauds.
Pankaj Mishra, Director Postal Services, Shahnawaz Khan- APMG, Arvind Kher- Assistant Director and others were also present on the occasion.
