World Students’ Day celebrated at SMVDU

KATRA, Oct 15: On birth anniversary of missile man of India, former President, Bharat Ratna, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the Universal Human Values Cell, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) celebrated World Students’ Day.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Balbir Singh, Event Coordinator and Dean Academic Affairs, SMVDU.
The chief guest was Babila Rakwal, Deputy Commissioner Reasi who while addressing the gathering highlighted contributions of Dr. Kalam in transforming India into a developed and modern country.
Registrar SMVDU, Nagendra Singh Jamwal was guest of honour and he shared his memories during SMVDU’s inauguration by Dr. Kalam on 19th August, 2004.
A documentary on life of Dr. Kalam was shown to the audience which was followed by cultural programme by students.
The students and the teachers took an oath written by Dr. Kalam emphasizing the duties, responsibilities, morals and ethics for students and teachers.
Poster making activity was also carried out in this regard by Dr. Rajiv Kumar and Dr. Anil Bhardwaj on the theme of Dr. Kalam and the winners were felicitated by chief guest and other dignitaries.
A message of Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor SMVDU was also read which emphasized on following the path shown by Dr. Kalam to transform individuals, society and the country into a world power.
An exhibition was organized by Dr. Balbir Singh showing rare collections presenting various achievements and historical incidences of Dr. Kalam in the various fronts through newspaper cutting, posters, flyers, banners, books etc.
The exhibition was inaugurated by DC Reasi and shall remain open for next three days.
The event was coordinated by Dr. B.B Jindal, Dr. Pooja Sharma, Dr. Kamaldeep, Dr. Madhu Mangal and B.K Bhatia along with various student volunteers of Universal Human Value Cell.
