JAMMU, Mar 24: World Tuberculosis Day was observed with zeal.
Divisional Commissioner, Dr Pawan Kotwal today flagged off a rally of 300 students organized to make people aware about the eradication of Tuberculosis.
The rally as a mark of Tuberculosis Day organized by Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF) in collaboration with the students of paramedical fraternity was flagged off by Dr Kotwal from Brig Rajinder Singh Chowk in the presence of Director Health Services Jammu Dr BS Pathania and JPPF members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pawan Kotwal said that eradication of tuberculosis is the need of the hour as this disease is killing three persons per minute. President JPPF, Pavitar Singh presented vote of thanks. The students of Kawa Group distributed the pamphlets among the masses for awareness and requested them for routine check of their health.
The members of forum as well as institutions who participated were MS Katoch, Working President JPPF, Inderjeet Khajuria, Avinash Bhatia, Gajan Singh Khajuria, RL Tandon, Rajinder Gupta, BL Bhardwaj, Rajiv Mahajan, ML Sharma, PR Slathia, Rajinder Singh, Uday Chand, Johnny Joseph Kutty, Babitha Kutty, Bhupinder Kaur, Sunita Sharma, Anan Sharma and Aman Gupta.
In connection with World Tuberculosis Day (TB), a function was held at Government Chest Disease Hospital here. Director Health Services Dr BS Pathania was the chief guest on the occasion. The theme of this year celebration was Unite to End TB. Addressing the gathering, he said that there is dire need to raise public awareness about the spread of the disease that is treatable and preventable and Government has taken up strong steps to control the disease and save millions of precious lives.
Among others Deputy Director Schemes DHS Jammu, HOD Microbiology GMC, HOD CD Hospital, WHO Consultant and other officers of health department were present in the function.
District Tuberculosis Centre (DTC) Poonch observed the World TB Day at AMT School Poonch. Chief Medical Officer Poonch Dr Mumtaz Hussain Bhatti was the chief guest on the occasion. While speaking, Dr Bhatti stressed the TB patients to undertake complete course of Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS) treatment as per the advice of the doctors so as to eradicate the disease completely from the country. District Tuberculosis Officer Poonch, Dr Fehmida Bandey, students from AMT School, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Poonch, Dr Niaz Ahmed, Dr Ishrat Hussain, Dr Manzoor, Dr Ruby Naz Bhatti, besides many others were present on the occasion.
Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under Delta Force organised a two day awareness and treatment diagnosis on Tuberculosis at Banihal on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day. The programme included awareness camp at Banihal park by the Medical Officer of Rashtriya Rifles Battalion and Dr Vipin and Dr Bashir of Banihal Hospital, free diagnosis and treatment camp at Sub District Hospital Banihal.
World TB Day was observed at District Tuberculosis Centre, Udhampur. Dr Chander Prakash, Chief Medical Officer, Udhampur was the chief guest on the occasion. Among others, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Santosh Sharma, District Health Officer Dr Som Singh, Medical Officers Dr Chander Kanta, Dr Shivani Kotwal and all staff members of DTC Udhampur were present on the occasion. District Tuberculosis Officer Dr Yash Paul Bhagat addressed the gathering. Students of AMT School, local residents and patients of the District Tuberculosis Centre also participated in the programme. A seminar was also organised on the topic of Tuberculosis in which students from AMT School participated.
Sarpanches, panches, patients and attendants were also present on the occasion.
