JAMMU, Mar 27: World Theatre Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and fanfare by various organisations here today.
To commemorate World Theatre Day, Natrang staged play ‘Tauba Tauba’ written by Rajinder Kumar Sharma and directed by Neeraj Kant.
The play opens at the home of one ‘Anokhe Lal’ who has converted his home as rehearsal space as he is the director of the play which is scheduled to be staged within few days.
‘Anokhe Lal’ was very much worried about the performance of the play as nothing was going right, actors were forgetting the lines, people were coming late in the rehearsal and on the top of it, the tickets of the show have already been sold.
The ultimate crisis occurs when the director comes to know that the actor who was doing the role of father of the hero is not doing the play as he has to go out-of-station for some personal work.
Shattered, he decides to prepare his newly appointed servant to do the character of father in the play, who reluctantly agrees but real trouble erupts when the real father of ‘Anokhe Lal’ arrives to whom the servant introduced himself as the father of ‘Anokhe Lal’ on which both the servant and Anokhe Lal received a thorough beating from the real father.
Artists who performed in the play were Vishal Sharma, Aadesh Dhar, Kananpreet Kaur, Chaitanya Shekhar and Sanket Bhagat.
To promote the traditional folk cultural of J&K, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) in close coordination with Sangam Tru Art Production celebrated the day.
The programme was inaugurated by V.K.Magotra, Former Regional Director, Directorate of Field Publicity, GoI, who was the chief Guest while, Dr. Anju Dogra, Health Department, J&K Government , Dr. Anupriya Sharma, President Medical Cell J&K were the Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Magotra said World Theatre Day, at present in the rural areas the folk parties exhibit their art like as Kud, Harna, Chajja, Yater, Jagrana , Dadaras, Gugail,Karkan,Baran, Bagtia and Folk Instruments Sarangi and other instruments.
Embracing the spirit of World Theatre Day, Vomedh delighted audiences with a stirring performance of its short play ‘Kalesh’ as part of its ongoing ‘Terrace Theatre’ initiative. The play unfolded against the picturesque backdrop of a terrace in Bohri, captivating local residents and theatre enthusiasts alike.
Renowned Anchor, Author, and Poet Bindiya Raina Tikoo graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, adding prestige to the celebration of World Theatre Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Rohit Bhat, President of Vomedh, extended a warm welcome to the audience, setting the stage for an evening of artistic immersion.
Bharti Koul expressed heartfelt gratitude in her vote of thanks, acknowledging the support and enthusiasm of the attendees.
Renowned Theatre, Radio, Television and Film artist Sapna Soni was felicitated by Dr. Tarun Sharma, President Nat Manch, on the occasion of World Theatre Day for her outstanding contribution to theatre.
Soni, is currently running a Jammu based Theatre company “The kalakar’s “, an organization that is working towards increasing the reach of Theatre and the arts to wider audience through innovative initiatives.
Viraj Kala Kendra presented Dogri play ‘Mithi Dhup’ on the occasion of Bhartiya Bhaasha Sammelan which coincided with the World Theatre Day.
The jam packed with students as well as faculty members and other intellectuals including Raj Bharti Dr. Padam Malhar , Pushpa Bharti, Prof. Bharat Bhushan (HOD, Hindi Deptt.) and others appreciated the contemporary concept of the play and the flawless performances of the artists including Rajneesh Gupta as Pramod, Meera Tapasvi as Savitri and Tarun Singh (Charak) as Raju.
Music was brilliantly handled by Yuvraj Gupta and overall assistance was given by Sanjay Rohmetra .
The play revolves around the plight of an old couple waiting for their foreign settled son for the past fifteen years, in depression and decided to end their lives but their inner conscience awakened which stopped them to take such a negative step.
The viewers got emotional at very serious moments. In the end the play got standing ovation.
To encourage the young and budding artists to explore their hidden artistic talent, a weeklong National Art Workshop commenced here today.
The workshop is organised by Master Sansar Chand Baru (MSCB) Memorial Charitable Trust in collaboration with Petronet LNG.
Addressing to the artists, Anuradha Rishi, Trustee, MSCB Memorial Charitable Trust said that the workshop is aimed at giving impetus to the genre of art and to encourage the young artists to explore their hidden talent.
She said that the artefacts produced today will inspire the budding artists of Patnitop and its adjoining areas to try hand and produce more alluring artefacts in the coming time.
During the workshop 10 artists included Ashok Kumar, Bannu Baidh, Gouri Vemula, JD Maryan, Jitendra Baidh, Triveni Baidh, Sonal Gupta, Rahul J Mhetra, Nilisha J Phad and Monica Ghule will explore their artistic talent.
World Theatre Day, observed annually on March 27th, celebrates the cultural significance of theatre and its profound impact on society. It was first initiated by the International Theatre Institute in 1961 to promote awareness of the art form’s value and encourage international collaboration among theatre practitioners.
