SRINAGAR, Nov 3: A group of writers protested today against the Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy for failing to assist them in getting their books published.
The writers assembled at Pratap Park Srinagar to press for their demands. They said the books they had submitted in 2019 are lying in the academy and authorities are least concerned about the issue.
“We submitted the books in hopes of receiving funding to publish them, but we have not yet heard back. We want the Government to support us so that we can publish our work and share it with the following generations,” Fehmeeda Sopori said.
She added that they have several times raised the issues with the authorities, but they keep delaying the issue. “Now, I want the Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha, to take action so that our hard work doesn’t go to waste,” she said.
The protesting writers claimed that various literary organizations with which many writers are affiliated exist throughout Kashmir and that each of them is in urgent need of financial support. “The cultural academy should continue to provide aid to writers who have previously benefited from it,” they said.
