The officials said the project, with an estimated cost of around Rs 3 crore, was executed in a record time of three months. Its primary objective is to provide fully treated water to 320 newly constructed flats within 20 buildings, which will significantly benefit the Kashmiri Pandit community.
Ajaz Ahmad, the Executive Engineer of PHE Division Baramulla, expressed his satisfaction with the project’s outcome. He said that the transit accommodations will be handed over to employees under the PM package working in various Government departments. “Previously, we have connected around 16 blocks with clean water, which are accommodating army personnel in two of the blocks,” he said.
He emphasized the department’s commitment to this project and welcomed people to visit and witness the efforts invested in its success. He said that this water supply scheme is the first of its kind for transit accommodations.
The Kashmiri Pandits, who still have not moved to the new accommodation and live in the Veervan Pandit Colony, praised the district administration for obtaining the required plant. “We are overjoyed that the filtration plant will greatly assist us in drinking clean water. For the past 13 years, we have been drinking unclean water at Veervan Pandit colony,” an employee, Avtar Kishan Bhat said.
