Srinagar, Aug 30:
As the security agencies remained clueless about militants who stopped the work at the Wullar Conservation Project (Wullar barrage) in North Kashmir on Monday night, the operation to trace out the militants responsible for the attack continued for third consecutive day today.
Police, Army, Navy’s marine commandos’ Marcos and Central Reserve Police (CRPF) are fanning out in the area to find out any traces these militants might have left so that they could be identified and traced out.
The operation in the Wullar lake and its adjoining areas continued and the project area has been completely sealed. No one was allowed to go near the project site and local civilian movement in the area has also been restricted.
The work on the project remained suspended for the third consecutive day today but the Government is keen to re-start the work on the project. But the workers fled the area after the militant threat, despite assurance of security by police.
Senior security force officers are monitoring the operation and they are under pressure to find out how such a large group of militants entered the area and spent almost four hours at the project site and fled from them area without being noticed by the security forces.
Security forces are questioning the locals of the area as they felt that the operation would not have been executed without the involvement of locals of the area. However, so far they have not got any clue as the operation seems to have been well executed.
It may be mentioned here that around 16 militants with half of them foreigners stopped work at Wullar Conservation Project at Wullar Barrage in Sopore area of North Kashmir on Monday night. Sources said that they came and asked all the labourers and engineers who were present there to stand in a queue. All of them were terrified as they thought that the militants might kill them.
The gun men beat few of the Project workers ruthlessly and also snatched their cell phones. They also carried out an IED blast and fired few shots and also damaged the equipment of the project. They asked the workers to flee from the project site.
Pakistan considers the project violation of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 signed by India and Pakistan. Sources said that the attack seems to be carried out on the directions of Government of Pakistan.
