SRINAGAR, Oct 31: The Executive Engineer PMGSY Budgam was among seven persons who died of COVID-19 in Kashmir today taking the Jammu and Kashmir death toll to 1481 while 294 persons tested positive in Valley taking the J&K tally of the corona positives to 94785.
Executive Engineer PMGSY Budgam Basit Amin Shah was infected with COVID-19 during his duty as he attended series of meetings of Back to Village early this month. He tested positive and was admitted to Chest Diseases Hospital in Srinagar after he developed pneumonia last week. However, he was put on oxygen but his condition worsened and he was put on ventilator. He later developed kidney failure and succumbed last night.
Basit attended several meetings of Back to Village early this month and as per his colleagues there was no provision of social distancing. This is second COVID-19 death of an Engineer in PMGSY Budgam in recent months. Earlier, Junior Engineer in PMGSY Budgam Perviaz Ahmad Bhat died of COVID-19.
Basit was one of the office bearers of J&K Civil Engineering Graduates Association (JKCEGA) and the Joint Action Committee of Engineering Graduates Associations (JAC). The JKCEGA and JAC are shocked with his death.
The other persons who died include four from Srinagar, and one each belonged to Ganderbal and Pulwama.
A 67-year-old man from Lalbazar Srinagar died at SKIMS Soura, six days after he was admitted there.
A 70-year-old man from Batamaloo Srinagar died at SKIMS Bemina, today. The septuagenarian was admitted there on October 24.
A 45-year-old man from New Theed Harwan Srinagar also died at the SKIMS Soura hospital, a week after he was admitted.
A 50-year-old man from Kreshbal Noorbagh area of Srinagar died a day after he was admitted to SKIMS hospital while another victim from Valley was from Pulwama.
A 30-year-old man from Safapora area of Ganderbal died at SKIMS Soura, 17 days after he was admitted to the tertiary care hospital.
With these deaths, the fatality count has reached 1480 in J&K including 984 in Valley.
Srinagar district with 356 deaths topped the list followed by Baramulla 145, Budgam 94, Pulwama 81, Kupwara 73, Anantnag 74, Kulgam 46, Bandipora 46, Shopian 35 and Ganderbal 33.
Kashmir today reported 294 COVID positive cases taking the J&K tally of the Corona positives to 94785.
Those who tested positive today include 124 from Srinagar, Budgam 21, Baramulla 60, Pulwama 8, Kupwara 41, Anantnag 10, Bandipora 9, Ganderbal 16, Kulgam 3 and Shopian 2,
With today’s infections, the number of positive cases in Srinagar is now 19369 with 1461 active, 17551 recovered, 357 deaths; Baramulla has 6006 positive cases with 1391 active, 4470 recovered, 145 deaths; Pulwama reported 4656 positive cases with 197 active cases, 4378 recovered, 81 deaths; Kulgam has 2485 positive cases with 90 active, 2349 recoveries, 46 deaths; Shopian has 2202 positive cases with 97 active, 2070 recovered and 35 deaths; Anantnag district has 4234 positive cases with 220 active, 3940 recovered, 74 deaths; Budgam has 5995 positive cases with 275 active and 5626 recovered, 94 deaths; Kupwara has 4460 positive cases with 424 active, 3963 recovered, 73 deaths; Bandipora has 4040 positive cases with 199 active, 3795 recovered, 46 deaths and Ganderbal has 3549 positive cases with 205 active cases, 3312 recoveries and 32 deaths.
Out of 94785 positive cases, 6419 are active, 86888 have recovered and 1478 have died including 983 in Kashmir division.
So far 2303954 samples were processed, 2209169 of whom tested negative and 94785 positive.
Moreover, 864 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals including 577 from Kashmir Division.
