Srinagar, Apr 8: A Mechanical Circle & I&FC Department Executive Engineer has today taken a leave of absence in protest after two of his colleagues allegedly assaulted him. However, the allegations have been refused by the accused.
According to reports, the concerned officer, Gayas-Ud-Din, has already written to the Superintending Engineer, claiming that he was assaulted by two of his subordinates, Assistant Executive Engineer Sumbal, Asif Ali, and AE Reyaz Ahmad Bhat.
“During a discussion regarding the installation of a drought pump at Zalpora drought. AEE Sumbal Asif Ali and AE Sumbal Riyaz Ahmad Bhat suddenly manhandled me without any provocation”, the officer wrote in the letter.
It further goes: “As already communicated the AEE concerned is very arrogant and mischievous. Also, several service books which were lying on my table have been damaged by these two officers. In light of this, there is no option left with the undersigned to proceed on protest leave w.e.f 08-04-2023. Until and unless the AEE Sumbal Asif Ali and AE Riyaz Ahmad Bhat will not be punished I will not be in a position to perform my duties.”
Besides, the officer said, the Chief Engineer, Deputy Commissioner and SDM concerned, a copy of the letter has been sent to SHO police station Sumbal alleging on and off harassment and misbehaviour and declaring the latter as a threat to his life.
The concerned officials said that the duo besides manhandling him also broke the furniture and damaged some service books of employees.
Meanwhile, AEE MID Sumbal, one of the accused, denied the claims, claiming that only the concerned official was involved in an incident that resulted in a scuffle. “The officer’s allegations are false and without foundation,” he stated.
During the conversation with the officer, he claimed, “He was showered with choice abuses, attacked, and injured.” “I have filed a complaint with the relevant police station for the registration of an FIR.”
