SAMBA, July 11: The people living near Sarban drain and Nanak Chak of Sapwal area have suffered a heavy loss after the dirty water of the drain entering their homes due to heavy rainfall yesterday.
The house hold goods of people worth lakhs were spoiled after the rain water and slush entered the houses adjoining the Nallah.
People are trapped in their houses which are submerged in water. Former Minister, Yashpal Kundal visited the area and met the people of Sapwal who were affected by the rain water and listened to their problems.
Amritlal Singh, Dwarka Nath, Manjeet Singh, Ashwani Kumar, Kuldeep Raj, Sarban Lal, Pawan Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Dhyan Chand, Naseeb Chand, Ashok, Sansar, Milky, Parshottam, Janak Raj, Darshan Lal, who lived near Sarban drain said that they have been living here for the last 70 to 80 years, till date there has never been such a flood that the dirty water of the drain enters to the houses of the people.
They said the width of the Sarban Nallah was sufficient and whether it rained or flooded, its water could easily pass through. But three years ago, BJP constructed its office in the middle of Sarban Nallah due to which the width of the drain decreased and when it rained late in the night, the dirty water of the drain entered into the houses of the people creating havoc.
The residents said the filth and mud of the drain along with the water entered every room of the houses and the kitchens. People living in the area spent the night removing dirty water from the houses. Beds, bedding, kitchen utensils, utensils and other things got spoiled due to water and mud.
Former Minister, Yashpal Kundal said that he would soon meet the higher officials regarding this matter and would demand that compensation for the damage caused to the people should be provided at the earliest and proper arrangements should be made for the drainage of water. District president, NPP, Rajeshwar Singh, Mohammad Sharif, Tony Sharma etc. accompanied him.
