Yasmeen, Shashi, Tasleema emerge winners in debate competition

RAMBAN, Aug 30: An awareness camp-cum-debate competition on the theme of ‘Child Labour and ways to abolish it’ was organized by Department of Labour in collaboration with Nirvana Academy and NSS unit of Government Degree College, here today.
Principal of the college Dr Yudhveer Singh was the chief guest on the occasion, whereas Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC), Ramban Ganshyam Basorta and staff members of the college were also present in the function.
As many as seven students from the school participated in the debate competition. In the competition, Yasmeen Rehman, Shashi Kumari and Tasleema won first, second and third prize respectively.
While speaking, Dr Yudhveer Singh stressed on the need to protect the child from this menace of child labour. He said that Labour Department should work in liaison with Education Department and various NGOs to trace the whereabouts of the school dropouts who may be probable child labours. He stressed on generating more awareness to curb the problem of child labour and protecting the rights and interests of minors.
Ganshyam Basotra apprised the students and staff about number of welfare schemes which can be handy for rehabilitation of children. He stressed on implementing the provisions of various Acts for labour welfare in letter and spirit.
HoD English, Prof SA Ganai and Nirvana Academy Chief Organisor Tahir Mushtaq also expressed their views.
