Yatra from Baltal, Pahalgam resumes, about 1.50 lakh pay obeisance

SRINAGAR:After remaining suspended due to rain yesterday, pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave shrine at 13,500 feet in south Kashmir Himalayas resumed this morning from Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps.
About 1.50 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance and had darshan of the self-made Ice Shivlingam in the shrine since the commencement of the 59-day-long pilgrimage from July 2 from both tracks.More than 10,000 pilgrims left Nunwan Pahalgam and Baltal base camps for the cave shrine this morning.
A yatra Official told  that fresh batches of pilgrims, including women, children and sadhus,  left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps following improvement in the weather. However, intermittent rain also continued.
He said due to incessant rains throughout the day yesterday the yatra remained suspended in all the sectors . No Yatri was allowed to move from the Access Control gates of Domel and Chandanwari and from any of the Yatra Camps during the day due to slippery track conditions.          However, a total of 1,660 yatris who stayed overnight on July 11 at the holy cave paid obeisance yesterday.
Till date 1,49,101 yatris have had darshan of the ice lingam.This morning, a fresh batch of pilgrims left Baltal base camp for the cave shrine. Similarly yatris, who had night halt at base camp, also started their return journey to base camp.
Pilgrims, stopped at Nunwan Pahalgam base camp, also started their onward journey to Chandanwari, last motorable halting station on traditional 45-km-long traditional track.
Pilgrims, stopped at other halting stations, also started their foot journey towards the cave shrine since this morning.
He said so far 8,563 pilgrims, including 1,829 women, 66 children and 23 sadhus, left Baltal base camp for the shrine while 3,193 yatris left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for the shrine. (AGENCIES)
