Yatra suspended due to rain and snowfall

SRINAGAR : Yatra was today suspended from Pahaglam and Baltal due to slippery track conditions following heavy rain and snowfall since early morning.
”We have allowed first batch of pilgrims from Baltal base camp early this morning, a Yatra Control Room (YCR) told.
However, yatra was later suspended due to slippery track condition after heavy rain, he said adding that the pilgrims who had left Baltal early this morning have also been stopped.
No pilgrim was allowed from Nunwan Pahalgam base camp due to heavy rain, he said adding that pilgrims who had night stay at different halting stations on 45-km-long traditional track have also been directed not to proceed towards the cave shrine because of slippery condition.
Cave shrine and its periphery besides other places, including Sheshnag, Mahaguns and Panjterni received snowfall early this morning.
He said 416 pilgrims paid obeisance on the 53rd day of the yatra yesterday. With this a total of 3,50,788 pilgrims had paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine since the commencement of the 59-day-long yatra on July 2.
Light snowfall was experienced near the Amarnath cave shrine and its periphery in south Kashmir Himalayas early this morning resulting in considerable drop in temperature.
A Yatra Official told that light snowfall was experienced at the holy cave and its periphery early this morning followed by rain.
The mercury witnessed a considerable drop. Sheshnag and Pisso top also received light snowfall followed by rains. Pahalgam, Chandanwari and other halting stations on the traditional route also received rain since early this morning.
The Chhari-Mubarak, holy silver Mace of Lord Shiva, will be taken out from Srinagar for the holy cave shrine through traditional 45-km-long Pahalgam track for final darshan on August 29.
